CK2 Dev Diary #112 - Wonderful News

Good afternoon

It has been a while since we wrote one of these and I am sure you are all dying to know what we have been working on, because of course, we have been working away on the next exciting thing. Our next update will be free and will focus on a brand new feature: Wonders.

Cathedrals, Fortresses, Pyramids and many many more wonders are planned for the next update. By investing a significant amount of gold and time you will be able to build a wondrous building. These will be built in stages meaning that even if you cannot finish it in your lifetime, your descendants will be able to finish what you started.

Wonders and their stages

Now even though many Cathedrals or Great Libraries may be built, we want to ensure they are not all the same, so it will be possible to add upgrades to your wonders, everything from spikes to gargoyles, to gardens, each of these giving unique modifiers and sometimes unlocks new content.

Upgrade Icons

We will also be adding some prebuilt historical wonders to the game, to represent already existing buildings, such as the Pyramids of Giza and the Colosseum of Rome. (Maybe you can even add an upgrade or two)

If you have fun ideas for any of this please let us know. I can’t promise it will get in, but it just might.

We hope you’re as excited about this as we are and please remember that all the art is work in progress.

I made a joke about this earlier but I don't think people got it. If you are a Lunatic and you get the hunting dog event, when your dog dies you get the option to dedicate a pyramid to him or her. I suspect this is where you get to obtain a pyramid wonder, rather than some kind of Kushitic restoration.
On the contrary I don't think anyone here hasn't seen that event but at least I never assumed it was a particularly big pyramid, even a relative small one, the size of a small farming hovel, would be an insane undertaking.

There's an event chain to build a super tall tower. I'd love to see that. Maybe it could even lean and become your own early tower of pisa.

There's actually already a tiny chance for that already. I got it once as Ostfriesland, it was cool. IIRC, it asks you to invest more to stabilize the tower, but doing so gives you extra bonuses including more income from the county due to tourists.

Why do you even ask ? Pyramids in medieval times (for instance) for a start ??
World Wonders ?? What is this as a game ? Civilisation nonsense ?
I want a Game Rule, not asking to not do it, i wonder why several people seem to have an issue with even that.
Hey, no need to get angry here. I'm just asking, friend.
I understand why pyramids bother you. I wouldn't like to be able to build them as some character in Western Europe. But it is my impression that you can't do it as just about anyone, rather only with obscure religions like Zun or Nahua. Maybe they will add Kemetic.
Anyway, Cathedrals, great palaces, universities and giant fortifications surely don't seem too outlandish to you?
Again, it's understandable why pyramids bother you. And there will probably be some other silly projects.
But this feature will make your realm unique from others. You will finally be able to make use of the piles of gold you make with larger realms.
And if silly stuff can be disabled..
it should be a great feature, right?

Ye better allow a Cultural Victory now, Paradox! I want my Cathedral to give me a Prophet one day, to kickstart a religion of my own.

So glad they're not done with CK2 yet and continue adding all these nifty little features. I can definitely imagine a whole host of events popping up while constructing the thing, as well as a mention for all rulers who invested in this Wonder in the Bloodline or something.

See, that's all i said.
Give me a Game Rule, then you can have pyramids, Tower of Babel, space stations and Megatron for all i care and we can all be a happy family
and i won't have to disagree with a single post in here.

Though i'd prefer one general game rule for this or that one and additionaly a 'silly'-only, as you called it.

Can we have Cathedrals that take hundreds of years to build? Will we need a relic for the altar of our Cathedrals? Can we build the Great Mosque of Djenne?

Well, my idea would be to build wonders you could chooce how many resources you spend for building. Like Time vs resource scale, Weere you can spend more money to build faster and if you want even more to increse a building speed you could force peasant to work, and couse unrest in province. I also think this force peasant to work should be modifer what can be added to buildings and if you start a building it will be triggered and player can make a choice to increse speed by forcing peasant to work or if he has hight diplomacy he could make speach to inspire peasant to work and have no unrest penalty but still have some tax penalty couse people dont do their usual jobs but help to build a wonder.

What we need is Denouncing Venice and Boat Mormonism religions with unique flavor mechanics, portraits, and temple holdings.

I know it's a longshot, but if we get Egyptian paganism can we also get Zalmoxism (The religion of the Dacians) too? And perhaps Atenism as a heresy of Kemetism?

Anyways, on the topic of wonders, what about a great port? Like the port of old Carthage?

On a smaller, saner scale, I'd like to see how this effects Runestones, and maybe have it so the Celtic cultures can build High Crosses.

This game just keeps getting better and better. :) Wonders sound amazing, as long as you represent them all from every part of the map.

Also, I would love to see a wonder where we would be able to "store" some of my artifacts. For example, if I build a grand library it should allow me to safely store my book artifacts. At the same time, if someone manages to loot the wonder county they should be able to take away the artifacts from their storage in the wonder building.

A lot of wonders should exist from the start as well, like Nalanda university or Hagia Sophia.

I believe Angor Wat was built as a massive Hindu temple complex covering hundreds of acres/hectares. We need one of those.

Also, there are also massive complexes built in Ladakh as Buddhist shrines. Those are cool too.

And let's not forget the very iconic and very large fortress/temple/monastery in Lhasa.

Oh, and those gigantic Hindu temple complexes on the island of Java (I forget the name). We could use a few of those.

Oh, and there is a ridiculously massive mountaintop fortress in Jodhpur, and a similarly massive fortress on a mountain in Salzburg too. Both are pretty impressive.
