YEEAAHH ! We need nice pirate insults, having appalling effetcs !!!!!

And ... can a pirate nation entrench enormous treasures on some islands to boost their glory?

Treasure_map.svg

Putting all your treasure into a hole in the ground seems counter-productive. I have written an event for recovering the gold of a sunken Spanish treasure ship though.

Maybe it should be in Age of Revolutions or Age of Absolutism?

Also, will the pirates be tied to the ages?

Pirate won't be tied to ages, but Caribbean pirates plus Libertatia will only spawn after the Golden Age of Piracy event has fired. That event also enables a new triggered modifier for 50 years: any nation that privateers in the Caribbean gets a bonus to privateer efficiency.

Ignore the event pic, I did this as Granada and we haven't hooked in the new pirate event art yet.

I saw you were appreciating a lot both my little work of art and that insult. This is a preview of how it's going to look like:

I hope you appreciate. I put all of my passion in what I do.

Finally, from an earlier reply it was said the "pirate king" reform is still a republic, so I assume it's just reflavored sortiton?

No, it picks one of your admirals to become the next leader.

@Groogy

Could the time for troops disembarking from transports be reduced, along with the penalty modifier? Unless you're attacking an island, there is no reason to launch any amphibious attacks or raids at any time. I'd be fine if such bonuses were put into Naval ideas, just make navies less pointless, as that seems to be aim of this DLC.

That's what the Integrated Marines modification do and the Portuguese Corps of Fusiliers

@sidestep I hope you're planning an achievement called "You fight like a dairy farmer", to the tune of "lose a battle in which you lost X soldiers while owning X livestock provinces." Companion achievement for "How appropriate, you fight like a cow" - "win a battle in which your opponents lost X soldiers while they own X livestock provinces."

Haha, that would be fun, but I think I've hit my quota for Monkey Island references already ;)
( also I've only been involved with the Missions, not any Achievements )

Hey you just pirated my insult! That's against the code!

2 questions, will there be new achievements in this? and will a patch be released with this that will fix colonial nations not colonising because they keep developing provinces?
The colonization AI should behave better with the free patch attached to the DLC.

Nice diary!

Question: why did you decide to use the faction system? I would think one of the major positives of making the estates free is that you could use estates for future expansions and thus create more multi-sides and immersive government forms than the old republican faction system.

Because Estates represents actors who hold land within your country. Factions just represents actors with influence in your government. It would be weird for let's say Buccaneers to own land in a pirate republic.

Amazing, I love this so much, thank you for putting this in the game. :)

As someone else has already mentioned, would it be possible to automate raiding somehow? Speaking from recent experience, it can be quite time consuming and painstaking to raid, especially late game where you have islands spread out across the world to do this.

Are you my comrade from the Grandest Lan? Friendship forged through mutual lust for others gold? :D
Anyway me and Jake will be having a look at Raiding mechanics but right now there's nothing planned so no promises.

I have lists of notable Algiers and Tripoli pirates in my book published like a month or something, it may work adding admirals into game
There was increase in Dutch and English pirates later (first there were Genoa and Venice majority), there were also German, Portuguese, Spanish, Jew, Danish, Icelandic pirates (really!)

I could find 2 Icelandic pirates which were famous, Jon Asbjamarson and Jon Jonsson Vestman.

Sadly these information are definitely disputed and most names are Turkified names later given.

There are also ship+admiral names in book I may post.

Not going to have time to do anything with this for the immersion pack, but I really like this stuff. Could you consolidate all your pirate info/suggestions into a thread on the suggestions subforum and tag me? Would love to do something with this at some point.

Will I be able to form the Pirate Republic of Rum?

wouldn't have it any other way. Of course you can.
Though as it was pointed out I do believe you will lose the government form. Might need to form Rum first.

Didn't read all the posts so might have been raised earlier.
Gotland at the start of the game was controlled by pretty much pirates (Eric of pommerania) so would make sense for the formable nation of Gotland to be able to be pirate republic :)

Doing something interesting with Eric of Pommerania is on my to-do list, but not for 1.28.

Bucaneers - slashed usual efficiency sailor & tax buffs (clergy mirror since raising development increases sailors anyway, duffing up shipmates to collect the tavern 'tab' as tax)

Haha that made me lol, just thinking a government working on their budget with main revenue coming from their tax on the rum in the local tavern. :D
