EU4 - Development Diary - 2nd of October 2018

Good day all and welcome to today's Dev Diary for EU4. Yesterday we released the free 1.27 Poland Update, packed with free content, map changes, bugfixes and such. Today we're going to be talking about the release as well as our plans going forward.

Firstly, with the Poland Update, we have updated EU4 to be GDPR compatible. You may have noticed a Privacy Policy when you tried to launch the game for the first time after the update. As part of this, we also had to remove the old versions from Steam due to them not being GDPR compliant but fret not if you want to keep enjoying the golden oldies. This link contains everything you need to know to get your old version back.

Now the Poland Update has our players making wealth common and impaling left & right. We'll be keeping our eyes on any issues that are coming in from players. We already have a plan to release a prompt fix for any serious issued popping up including but not limited to:

  • Centenarian Venetian Doges.
  • Lithuanian infeasibility in forming PLC
  • Some users not being able to start the game due to missing dependencies
As well as any other serious issues which we see occurring for users in 1.27 Poland

But beyond Poland, what lies in store for EU4? Well, as I mentioned just after Dharma, we're now looking to put the Europa back into Europa Universalis. With extensive love poured into India, The Far East and the Near East, it's high time we brought some attention back to Mother Europe. Poland was a good start, but we'll be rolling up our sleeves and getting to work on an Immersion Pack for our next release. Where will we be focusing? Well, the Pet Shop Boys would be pleased, because we're going to Go West!

Next week @neondt will do what he does best with the upcoming map changes in 1.28.

I hope there will be some flavour for the Italian peninsula as well

Spain/Portugal are cool I guess. Italy or the HRE would have been better though.

They could potentially tie in some improvements to Italy/North Africa as well, like what they did with the low countries in RB. It would make sense as these regions typically see constant Iberian meddling.

Maybe Naples and Sicily may be touched, but if they touch anything else I’ll be very sad and disappointed. Because in a Spain ImPak there will be no room for even a proper Italian mechanic. And Italy and the HRE need some real love. It’s not possibile that there areas so dense with diversity feels like the same every time, with no real difference between one nation and another. In the Spain ImPak we want a well fleshed-out Iberian Peninsula and a global rework like colonization or Catholicism (I hope the former).

Seriously, there is currently no region in Eurasia that is as flat-out wrong as is Indonesia, followed (with some distance) by SEA (you know your province setup is bad when it was inspired by the current political boundaries in the region).
Ruthenia (including Cossacks) and the Steppes are far worse and, unlike Indonesia, there were touches to Russia, Lithuania and Poland which mostly bypassed it. Indonesia is likely to be a part of the SEA pack, which may happen lately.

Paradox teases/anounces the region of focus for next DLC/Patch.

Roughly half the forum - "Yay, X is finally getting love."

Roughly the other half - "BOO, region Y should be the one getting love."

And thus the cycle continues.......

For the record I'm fine with Iberia getting some attention. I'd suspect that, outside the peninsula itself, Morocco, France, Sardinia, Naples, Sicily, and maybe the Lowlands are likely areas to get some attention.
The major countries pretending for the update are often like that, I suppose.
Personally, I hope that Catholicism gets a good touch and flavour, with Teutons and company also getting some love.

What about Indonesia?

The best answer to this is to just make the entire game as terrible as possible. That way every region deserves improvement just as much as the rest.

Hopefully we get a DLC/content pack for Southeast Asia this year.

Poor region is a featureless wasteland currently. It desperately needs some love.

This might be pretty low chance and I am probably in the minority for this, but I really hope we could get a cute little decision to form Carthago as Morocco and Tunis if Iberia is getting some new flavour. We can restore Rome and Zoroastrian Persia, so Carthago with nice trading ideas would be neat. Also REALLY hoping for a nice colonisation rework.

But after that there better be a larger HRE DLC, I can't stand the vanillaness of Austria and the HRE reforms anymore, as well as the huge block provinces of Brunswick and Thueringen

The hope is that they use this Immersion pack to give a little update to a few of Mare Nostrum features, like the raiding mechanism.

Aleluyah! I hope it will be more than fixing the provinces and that you are gonna make the Castillian Civil War historical, and finally link it with Isabel I and the union with Aragon (or with Portugal if their candidate wins)

Iberia at last, please focus on Germany or Balkans next. Both of these regions need some revamping and flavour but I'd guess Germany would be more work so a Balkans+Hungary patch first would be so great. Germany and HRE would probably get its own dlc and be a major update and not just more provinces and events.

I'm really overjoyed with expectation on the many possibilities an iberian patch can offer. I love many of the previous suggestions such as having different game routes such as the Portugal+Castile Union Vs Iberian Wedding or the Mediterranean/European focus Vs Colonial destiny, the universal monarchy with its "virreyes" and regional parlaments, a colonization systems (maybe needed) uptate, changes in the african/italian/burgundian/dutch influenced by the iberian nations, and/or other ideas that Paradox can come up. A Cartago formable nation that will most certainly have to wait to a northern african patch and see elephants other than hindu crossing iberia to invade Europe. So many possiibilities...

But adding flavour to andalusian iberian muslisms and vasque cultures in Navarra and Granada nations is a feat I've been dreaming since I got the game.

Needless to say, I'm completely hyped. \(^_^)/
