EU4 - Development Diary - 2nd of October 2018

Good day all and welcome to today's Dev Diary for EU4. Yesterday we released the free 1.27 Poland Update, packed with free content, map changes, bugfixes and such. Today we're going to be talking about the release as well as our plans going forward.

Firstly, with the Poland Update, we have updated EU4 to be GDPR compatible. You may have noticed a Privacy Policy when you tried to launch the game for the first time after the update. As part of this, we also had to remove the old versions from Steam due to them not being GDPR compliant but fret not if you want to keep enjoying the golden oldies. This link contains everything you need to know to get your old version back.

Now the Poland Update has our players making wealth common and impaling left & right. We'll be keeping our eyes on any issues that are coming in from players. We already have a plan to release a prompt fix for any serious issued popping up including but not limited to:

  • Centenarian Venetian Doges.
  • Lithuanian infeasibility in forming PLC
  • Some users not being able to start the game due to missing dependencies
As well as any other serious issues which we see occurring for users in 1.27 Poland

But beyond Poland, what lies in store for EU4? Well, as I mentioned just after Dharma, we're now looking to put the Europa back into Europa Universalis. With extensive love poured into India, The Far East and the Near East, it's high time we brought some attention back to Mother Europe. Poland was a good start, but we'll be rolling up our sleeves and getting to work on an Immersion Pack for our next release. Where will we be focusing? Well, the Pet Shop Boys would be pleased, because we're going to Go West!

Next week @neondt will do what he does best with the upcoming map changes in 1.28.

universal monarchy as a special form of government,

Universal monarchy is a concept, not an actual government. Unless you are referring to something else than Charles V dream of a European-spanning Catholic Empire?

Spain and Portugal are both great nations to play, and I have played them a lot. An update to that region will make me start all over there again, so I am looking forward to the changes!

is it possible to rework the royal marriage and pu system a bit?
I would like to be able to do some dynasty gaming.

I always wondered why inheriting the low countries results in annexation of the nations instead of a vassal relationship. I think a vassal relation result I a more natural independence war of the Netherlands.

Ps. Ignore my comments, I don't have time to play, I have all sorts of adult obligations

Yaaas! Spain!

Happy for the Spanish part of the forum, too. They were really starting to get intense as of late :p

Hopefully this ImmPack will have a bit more interesting features than Rule Britannia.

Very much looking forward to this immersion pack. Given the large roll Spain/Portugal played in this time period I think they are an excellent choice for getting greater attention in their own dlc.

Once again not to be anoying or anytging but i really hope u inted to make hre a logical mechanic empire with posibility to force someone into hre. And make a little fixer upper in baltic region for more close importance of the land. It inded was great land with hardy ppl and most games let it by. Except ck2 team.

Is the potato AI getting educated in this patch, or is it still in the works?

Love that Iberia gets an overhaul, one of my favorite regions to play in and get new players interested in the game. I personally just hope that we don't get another meaningless mechanic like Innovativeness that gets shoehorned in to (thats at least how it feels to me) sell the add-on to people who are not interested at all in the region.

In addition to an overhaul of the spanish region (bringing province detail to the level of other overhauled regions) I do hope that the Maghreb will be looked at as well, some more Fluff in that region would be greatly appreciated and maybe we could get rid of the increased coring cost (Although I don't know what would be more engaging and still represents the highly autonomous Berbers).

Is it possible to add modding support to a separate government file? As it stands if you make a new file for it EU4 will only load whichever comes first, the vanilla or modded one. Would be nice if this was made to work as other files, such as on_actions, in which you can make a new file for it.

I´ve been expecting an Iberian face wash for a loooong time! Thanks a lot for this choice!

My suggestions:
1. Please consider improving a bit the Trastámara dinasty (maybe from Enrique onwards?). I don´t know why but I think when I play Castille the only decent ruler I ever got was a 6/5/6 Isabel and all the others were things like 1/0/2 and 1/1/2 and the such. I don´t know if that´s a game mechanic or I´m just extremely unlucky but it´s annoying nonetheless.

2. I like the Castilian mission tree but I think it can be made more interesting. At least maybe you can substitute the generic missions with specific castilian ones.

3. Please improve the provinces development and trade goods!

4. Maybe stop Aragon from being such an ass in most games? They were supposed to fight Islam together!

5. I don´t know much about this topic though but wouldn't the starting fortress in Castille la Viaje be better placed in Burgos? (I mean historically wise)

6. Please improve the probability for the event of a PU with Portugal. I really don't like to kill them in my games and their beautiful manueline architecture,, but well you know, they are better off ruled by me so I always do them the favor of being conquered.

7. Can we get improved colonization mechanics? please??? :) :) :) :)

i would laugh really hard if instead of Iberia it would be a Scottish/Icelandic/Irish drinking immersion pack, i mean you cant go more western than that in Europe :p
New building: brewery, send your troops and have them "Drink" (new feature) for +morale and shock damage bonuses but lowered movespeed
21 new more provinces in Ireland, 34 in scotland and 12 in the atlantic ocean (doesnt matter, england will eat them all anyway)
new resource: Hop, available to grain provinces, allows the building of brewery
Breweries increase the chance for your monarch to gain the Babbling Buffoon trait (and many more...)

ok comedy over, looking forward to what you change in the peninsula

We don't need Iberia patch. Iberia is already loaded with many provinces!
What we need more now is a Balkan update. The map is a mess there.
Iberia is currently a region with big and blocky provinces, anachronistic province-names, lacking depth in terms of province-density (higher populations and stronger regional economies are not really represented) and some cities are in the wrong location.

I think it's more than deserving.
