EU4 - Development Diary - 6th of June 2017

Good day all. It's Tuesday, so that means that it's time for another EU4 dev diary....on any other day than today. But June 6th is Sweden's National Day, so I'm sitting in my shorts enjoying a rare spot of sun

Well, regardless of that, I want to talk about a couple more things being updated alongside v1.22. The Custom Nation Designer and Achievements

The Custom Nation designer for owners of El Dorado continues to be a popular choice for players and we wanted to return to it to add many of the new bonuses. The game has evolved plenty since its introduction in early 2015 and many modifiers have been added since then to accommodate such evolutions. As such, we bring these to the Nation Designer. I'll admit, we looked at some of the modifiers and thought "Who would create a nation with THIS?" but decided that it's your nation, your rules. In they went

This list is potentially non-exhaustive (I'm on my balcony, not the office) but we are happy with how the list turned out, much like how we added Monarch Personalities to the designer in Rights of Man.

Another thing coming along with Third Rome and 1.22 are the new Achievements. As ever, our talented 2D artist @The Real Timor was ready, digital pen in hand to whip up 10 new ones for us all.

With Third Rome's release little over a week away, we'll be looking at the Patchnotes as usual next Dev Diary. 'Till then, Happy Sweden Day!

Looks great!
It would be nice to be able to make cores for a custom nation in provinces that is not owned by it. That would allow to add a sense of history to the custom nation and its neighbours.
Also it would be cool to be able to edit already existing tags, as AnssiA suggested.
And also, it would be super nice, if you could edit existing tags, to have a "revoke core"-button or "release this nation"-button, so you can start the game as Afghanistan or Miao for instance.
Aaand maybe I should take all this this to the suggestions area.
Looking forward to go for the new achievements!

So Nation Designer becomes basically cheating tool?
You do realize that the nation designer has ALWAYS allowed for the creation of hilariously powerful nations, right?

This is nothing new and hardly an issue seeing as most achievements are blocked if you are playing as one.

What would prevent giving massive boni for custom nation?
That is what the point limits you can set when making your nation are for.

Interesting set of achievements with a focus on the Russian minors. Can we have an achievement that requires random new world? That would give that option a boost in popularity.

Anyway, this is the theme song for The Third Rome:

Nice, thanks Jake, any chance of showing us the new units and advisor portraits that are included with Third Rome?

I don't think that Jake can decide when to show this. Units Packs and other graphical goodies are usually presented by the Content Designers who made them (and usually outside DDs).

Doesn't change the fact that we would like to see some renders :)

Oh thank god, envoy travel time is finally in the nation designer. I am going to max that out so hard in my next custom nation game.

Unrelated, but since you mentioned monarch personalities in the designer...
Can you give your custom monarch the immortal personality?
You've been able to for a while, but it costs 800 points so you need to take as little land as possible for your nation and your heir and consort need to be really bad (which isn't a huge issue, as your king is immortal anyway, but)

I'd be happy if the nation designer let us choose the religions from the CK2 importer.

i take issue with the drawing of an Orthodox-ized (?) Pope, the clothing he's wearing is maybe accurate for the current Pope, but he's very much an outlier. do not like

Should have seen a Dithmarshen achievement coming with their unique government and ideas added recently.

About time there was a Greece achievement.
