Stellaris Dev Diary #185: Announcing Necroids

Hello everyone!

Today we bring you some exciting news about our upcoming Species Pack! We’re happy to announce that our next species pack will be themed around death and should allow you to live death to the fullest! Check out the trailer below:

Necroids will feature:
  • 15+1 new portraits (the +1 being machine)
  • 1 new Ship Set
  • 1 new City Set
  • 1 new Room background
  • 1 new Origin
  • 3 new Civics
  • 1 new pre-scripted Empire
  • 1 new Advisor Voice
We wanted to add ships that had a more sinister or evil appearance, and I’m very happy to say we’ve made something really great. We’ll go into more detail about the ships, and give you a peek into the art process, in a future dev diary.

True to the theme, we wanted the portraits to revolve around death, but not look outright undead or decaying. We never intended the Necroids to be specifically undead, but rather themed around death. Similar to the ships, we will be doing a dev diary in the future to give you a peek into the art process, and also reveal all the new portraits. Stay tuned!

Regarding the other features, we have already shown you some of them, such as the Death Cult Civic and the Memorialist Civic. The remaining features will be revealed over the next couple of weeks, and maybe you'll even get to learn about Jeff. But for now, let’s pass the Mishar Cabal into our memories.

---

General Donnten threw her bloodied axe next to Ostiir’s severed head. The others in the Leadership Council would remember this the next time they considered interrupting her in the Mishar Althing.

She pushed past the acolytes that were coming to deal with the corpse. They were annoyed - the rites were always harder if the head was removed - but they would just have to stitch it back together.

Smiling to herself, she left the arena. At least Ostiir would be an obedient little soldier now.

I'll buy your cosmetic DLC when you address the following, Paradox:

-The AI building dozens and dozens of habitats but only ever colonizing half of them

-The fact that my vassals, my OWN puppet states, do not vote with me in the galactic congress

-THE INFURIATING BUG WHERE MY SHIPS REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED AND JUST DIE - this has been in the game for over a year now, and it just happened to me AGAIN the other day! My fleet of 12 battleships got obliterated by ONE cruiser because they just sat there and didn't fight

-The AI's inability to deal with pirates

-The fact that the AI will spend more time moving its fleets back forth between point A and point B during wartime then actually fighting my fleets

-The fact that the AI is horrifically opposed to making enough shipyards for itself. The other day, I tagged over to see where my enemy's fleet had gone after I fought it once. Turns out, it was still sitting there with 3 badly damaged ships because out of their 12 starbases, only 2 had shipyards.

Until such time as you make this game enjoyable, or even playable, I will not be purchasing any more DLC, I will write a negative review, and I will advise all who I encounter to avoid Paradox games.

And don't even try that BS where "It was only artists! They can't fix the game's code!" A) They included civics with this pack, so you KNOW that somebody knows how to code, and B) They could have spent the money they paid the artists on paying a programmer.

I think that there should be a way to stop habitats from spawning. They get filled up really quickly and aren’t honestly that good.

For the player they are. Research habitat are quite efficient. Trade habitat too. But for the AI... Yes but like 90% of the game features, AI can't handle it. Problem isn't habitats by themselves.

A good guideline to use for tone is: If you wouldn’t want someone walking into your living room speaking the words you’re about to post; it’s best to find another way to say it.

But I find quite logical, that if I promised a lot of good stuff to people, took their money, and did nothing, they will want to walk into my living room and kick my ass.
If I wouldn’t want someone walking into your living room and kicking my ass, I must... well... do my job?
It's weird, that someone here has another vision of this process.

I only quoted the rules for the Stellaris sub-forum as they were pinned; they are not my own and I personally think they are rather ambiguous as to what they define as toxic in a way that could be made to apply to legitimate criticism. Make of them what you will; but please don't attribute that content to me as I didn't write it.

My intent was to make people here aware that they might be subject to penalties in accordance with the forum's rules on what it defines as toxic conduct. It does not mean I agree with them, nor does it matter; this platform ultimately is subject to those rules and penalties. We should all be critical, but careful in being so.

from what i have seen (and i havent checked the last 10 pages of this thread) the only ones that "could" be called "toxic", are, ironically, the ones whiteknighting paradox for no reason, especially considering:

1, their arguments are inherently invalidated by nature of the discussion, and reactions to the developer responces in this very thread

2, their reason for.... "creating" said arguments are inherently against stellaris becoming an actual enjoyable game for everyone, simply for the benefit of stroking ones ego because of an artificial moral highground, which does not exist, again, following the examples people have shown in this very thread...

very ironic indeed

what's fanatical about asking the devs to fix their game, for which i paid for? you do realise you arent making any sense right?
I'll just summarize it with this: you talk about this as if it were Fallout 76. it's absurd and even though I hate using "entitled" because for the most part its used as an excuse to not talk about bad business practices, in this case that's what it seems like.
