Stellaris Dev Diary #273 - A Peek into the Future

Good Afternoon, I’m taking over Dev Diary duties this week as Eladrin is away!

We’ve been continuing to work on the 3.6 ‘Orion’ patch, and hope to have another update for the Open Beta out next week. The feedback we’ve received has been immensely useful and I cannot thank those that have been providing it enough!

Here is a preview of some of the new UI art our artists have been working on for the new features and additions coming in 3.6 ‘Orion’ and a small selection of some of the changes we’re planning to get into the Open Beta for the next update following the feedback both on the forums and our discord.

Work in Progress UI Art for the Holy Covenant Federation

  • Modular Cybernetics no longer gives hive-minds +10% pop assembly, instead their Spawning Pools now gain Augmentation Drone jobs, which turn alloys into Cyborg Pop Assembly.
  • The Integrated Preservation tradition for Machine Intelligences now affects Evaluators (and Chronicle Drones) not Coordinators.
  • The Whisperers in the Void stability penalty has been reduced, but now imposes a small reduction in Unity production.
  • Larger Unbidden ships and structures now have an Arc Defense Field to vaporize attacking strike craft and missiles.

Please note that the 3.6 "Orion" Open Beta is an optional beta patch. You have to manually opt in to access it.
Go to your Steam library, right click on Stellaris -> Properties -> betas tab -> select "stellaris_test" branch.

Don't forget to turn off your mods, they will break.

These look really cool! Kinda a shame we're not getting the Holy Covenant emblem yet.

Have you considered the suggestion in the previous dev diary to change Eater of Worlds penalty to a stability penalty while not at war? Ship upkeep penalty actively makes it harder to build up a fleet, forcing players to reduce their fleet instead, which is the opposite of what empires serving the Eater of Worlds should do.

Also, I forgot to ask in the last thread, but an ongoing endgame crisis does count as being at war, right?

Forgive me if this is actually extremely difficult for you to deal with, but will the Totalitarian faction issues with assimilation be fixed in the upcoming update?

It's making it somewhat problematic to make use of ascensions as an Authoritarian in a way that doesn't really make sense.

And speaking of UI, would you consider expanding the Federation icon to include federation cohesion, as well as add an Agreements icon that shows your subject type (or overlord status) and displays your loyalty (or the loyalty of your subjects)?

It would be a real help with managing federations and subjects.

Would agree but then the whisperer stability penalty should be removed (edit: maybe replaced with a slightly larger unity penalty) so that it doesn't step on the eater's toes

I know, the question is off topic, but could you imagine putting something like eu4 institutions into stellaris? Could have a lot of narrative potential and would make science less of a snowball cannon.

Is Voidling a trait for biological ascension, for void-dweller ascension, or will it be unique to the void-dweller origin?
Biological ascension, specifically Transgenesis technologies. If you finish biological ascension you gain access to it by slaying the Voidspawn.

Is the amount of pop assembly increased from the base spawning pool?

It would be good for balance if you had a chance to look at trading favors to the AI for obscene rewards early game.
Personally I'd vote for just removing this option, it is too exploitable.

I have a great number to reduce the stability penalty to, 0. That's a good number! Especially with the random events still being a thing. And I have to agree about the Eater of Worlds thing. The bonus it gives is negligible. The penalties severe, and with the random events on top, ouch.

Any chance you guys could give us an Army Manager, similar to the fleet manager? Currently army management is atrocious. Being able to shift queue 10 at a time and have them produce at random planets and auto merge would be a god send.

Also any chance for an absolutely minor change that would make my life way better? Please, please expand the "fleet" section in the fleet manager. It's tiny, lots of scrolling. And the most important aspect of it.
