MSI - Your Ladder to the Stars

Warmest greetings from Minamar Specialized Industries!

We delight in meeting new peoples and welcoming them into the greater galactic community. With over 143 successful uplifts to date, we’re the acknowledged leaders in the field of social and technological ascendancy. We’re thrilled to finally make your acquaintance, and hope to add your world to our success story.

We understand that this is all very sudden. Receiving a transmission ‘from the stars’ has likely come as a surprise to you, but we’ve been watching your world for some time and your civilization scores very highly on several relevant metrics. With an evaluation score of ?ERROR_UNDEFINED, the people of ?ERROR_HOMEWORLDNAMENOTFOUND have been flagged as particularly worthy of cooperative enlightenment. Congratulations!

We have assigned some of our best specialists to your case, and our representatives will be arriving on world shortly. We can’t wait to meet in person to discuss the benefits of ascendency as well as the terms of this beautiful arrangement.

Enlightenment may not be free. But at MSI, it’s always worth the cost.

Your friends at Minamar Specialized Industries

Doesn't really seem like something that will add significance to game play, since uplifting is already by-passable. Maybe I'm wrong, but just seems kind of "eh". I have a feeling this will be an mostly ignorable update, kind of like the espionage and the galactic community DLC, that are still completely ignorable.

i doubt it will be about or only about pre ftl primitives. For a fallen empire our empires are still primitive so whatever comes with the dlc might want to uplift us. Like the Enigmatic Cache Builders for example. I would bet on it, a bit at least.

This seems sort of silly as a dlc; there aren't that many civilizations to uplift.
Pretty sure that if this is a full DLC and not a story pack there will be more to it than just the primitive nations.

Huh? Galactic community and espionage are ingorable to you? Okay if you think so then yes, the uplifting of primitves is useless yes. For me the GC and Espionage are some of the better stuff for Stellaris.

What I'd like to see in addition is some sort of GC mechanic for internal politics and the option for more internal poltiics in Federations.

Aye. The dev diary has the same kind of energy to it as the Machine FE.

if this is a full DLC

From what little bit of info we have, it's going to be a Story Pack. It'll have new origins, maybe a new shipset (according to the screenshots) and, I quote, "new mechanics".

It gives "players the chance to tell stories about their civilizations’ early encounters with visitors from the stars — ones that may not have come in peace!"

Looks indeed like a small-ish expansion here.

There was a steam leak where it was described as a story pack. There were screen shots that showed a new origin (the escaped slaves one that was cut from Federations), some new ships, primitive first contact flavour text, and possibly a cloaking system as there was a transparent ship next to another that was in the process of becoming transparent.

EDIT: I wasn't sure if posting the steam links would be against the rules, but it's all out there now on youtube

IT KEEPS HAPPENING
hope paradox does a meme out of this leak too like with toxoids, the best part is that the last two leaks seem to have been entirely by accident, to the point i'm not sure if it's a clever marketting strategy to build up hype for it or a clumsy intern

Why does this keep happening with the leaks? It must be demoralising for the developers to have every attempt at a surprise spoiled.

Shame.

On the other hand, it appears that the next DLC is a Story Pack (yay) which means the next major DLC may still be able to focus on internal politics, which would be a win for everyone.

Leaks are great hype juice, I'd be surprised if they were too concerned about it if it's only a matter of hours in advance.

That said, this may have been meant for later in the week. For example, the video above has switched to 'unlisted', presumably at request...

it was probably going to be the next DD, i would not be surprised if someone at the office got tuesday and thursday mixed off or even if it were an accident on steam's side of things
i could see it being a malicious leak if it were screenshots or information about it, but releasing the steam page early is too big to be anything but an oopsie.
either that or on purpose to generate hype

I doubt they are going to be THAT upset over it, so I agree with what you are saying.

But still, I am sure they'd prefer for it to come out when they were ready to announce it rather than leaking in advance.

For centuries your people looked up in awe, and wondered if life exists amongst the vast expanse of stars. Will extraterrestrial visitors be celebrated, or met with violent panic? Or maybe they have always been here, cloaked in the shadows. Today, the era of speculation is at an end: You are not alone. Wishlist the First Contact Story Pack today: http://pdxint.at/3WfroKs

well cat is out of the bag, seems more like a story patch and not a full expansion. Can't say I am disappointed though.

It is not from the benevolence of the uplifter corporation that we have our potable water, but their enlightened self-interest.
This is treason. You are spreading seditious lies against our benefactors. Didn't you paid attention at your loyalty sessions. Our benefactors do this out of the goodness of their 3 hearts. They gain nothing by it. Helping us is causing them a loss and problems.

Sure, I guess. No different than the archaeology dlc to me.
The archeology DLC was small but one of the better ones. I love the narrative they do with it, plus the nice loot we get from it.
