Devilish MASONRY !

Jokes aside, likely a corrupt DLC installation, unless if you use a mod that affects cultures or portraits.
Do you use a save of a game started before 3.0 ? You are on 3.01 now, right ?
I'd try deleting (or moving out if in doubt) all DLC (because it's easier) or specifically the graphic DLCs and do a "verify integrity of game files" in Steam after.

Anyone? It also happens in new games. Thought it was only because the first game was started before the latest patch. But lots of portraits looks like this (see image in first post).

Try deleting the Documents/paradox/ck2/gfx/ folder, and let the game make a new one. And run a Steam Verify operation against the game.

Hmm. That did not help. Same issue with strange portraits.

1) Did you delete the DLC files and redownloaded/"verfiifed.." them as suggested by me earlier ?
I base my earlier suggestion on a same advice by the portrait author on a similar issue.

2) What does "last update" mean ? 3.0 or 3.01 ?
IF the game was started before 3.0 then i'd suggest to start a new game or revert the patch, assuming you still have a save file not saved in 3.0.
If before 3.01, then..i don't know and would suggest to post a proper bug report instead.

From another thread where I coulden't launch the game after the update, I did something to a file so that things are saved inside the common/crusader Kings II folder (steam) and not documents) - but I delted gfx folder on both locations. Do I delete the entire DLC folder?

PS: I also have all DLC and graphics packs too I think. Only one that is not installed is sunset invasion.

Version is: 3.0.1 (CDYZ)

I also tried deleting the entire DLC folder, used the verify game and it download the files again. Same issue. (see image)

No idea then, except...
I also tried uninstalling/installing - same issue.
Right, that would have been my last suggestion before leaving this thread to tech support again, but did you manually delete the CK2 folder (in Steamapps/common)
or all its content before reinstalling ? Doing an uninstall through Steam alone can leave files behind that corrupt the reinstallation.

Ok, I have tried everything now. Deleting all files, uninstalling game, install over again etc.

I then tried one by one of the DLC's - and it turns out, it only happens when Holy Fury is active I get this issue. Not else... Only if Holy Fury is active. I love Holy Fury, but I really hate seeing this portrait glitch. Any solution?

Also: Jade Dragon I don't have it seemed if that matter. And Sunset Invasion is not active.

It's tempting to think this must be a bug, but if so why doesn't everyone get it?

Can you do a test install on another machine to confirm this?

I don't have too many computers I can install on. But I tried one thing now, the thing about using the userdir.txt. If I removed that one, all of a sudden I could open the game normally, without a crash. But one side-effect of removing this, it also fixed the portraits!

So now it works. Not sure how to mark this thread as complete.
