A question from the comment about Oman being well positions to trade between the Middle East and India:
How does trade work spanning multiple markets? If I want to build a trade empire as Oman, and only territorial stay in my home market, mechanically how can I trade spices from India to the Egyptians?
From what I understand, there are two possibilities:
  1. Foreign buildings that you can construct outside your own locations, which give you the ability to trade on another market. I’m not 100% sure if these are available for Oman.
  2. You use the strength of your market to import from India and export to Egypt. Here, I’m not convinced it will be profitable, because the price on your market probably won’t react to the large supply of spices and won’t drop enough to make it worthwhile.

I'm genuinely curious how can Johan get a cold in a Mediterranean climate.
As we all know, olive oil and plenty of wine renders the Mediterranean human utterly immune to respiratory infections. Clearly, Johan has simply not adopted the superior cuisine of that sunny coast. :p

Not in the sense of changing the look of a whole location. City meshes will remove trees underneath them as they grow but it's not so straight forward for changing a whole location
Honestly looks are not really that relevant but can the vegetation itself change? For example most of East Bengal was jungle in 1337 but would be farmland by the 17th century. This part was bit unclear to me when y'all explained it.

Vegetation change won't be able to change in game in terms of the effects of it. I can't speak to the graphical representation though. Iirc they want to get dynamic vegetation at some point in the future though?

couldn't something similar be done with farmland? where instead of it being a type of terrain it's essentially just a location that can support a large amount of farm buildings, which could be shown at buildings on the map and therefore deforest locations?
