hello, i have recently gotten eu4 and encountered an issue. The game speed is slow compared to yt vids where months go by in seconds is there a fix to this problem?
i have tried changing graphics settings and mods neither worked.

my specs are

GPU-Nvidia Geforce 710 2.5 ghz

CPU-Itel core i5-2400

and i have 16g of ram and on windows 10

thanks.

If you want months to go by in seconds, you need a much much faster CPU. But how fast is the game for you(e.g. measured as the time that it takes to pass the whole year 1445 from a fresh start)? Maybe the performance is even lower than what would be expected from your old CPU.

Or you could remove big parts of the game to improve performance considerably. Some impractical examples would be:
  • mod out 90% of the provinces(and everything which references them)
  • mod out 90% of the countries(and everything which references them)
  • remove all performance intensive events
  • disable the AI with the "ai" console command
  • play with custom setup and only a few countries on the map

What I forgot in my list before is that some(but not all) older versions are considerably faster than the current version, epecially the versions before 1.31. But then you would be missing many new features, improvements and bugfixes

Thanks for the reply, the game speed isn't terrible there is no difference between speed 4 and 5 for me, but you must be right about the cpu. Are there any you would recommend that won't leave me bankrupt?

Only upgrading the CPU won't help much, because your mainboard won't support much faster CPUs. And with a newer mainboard, you will probably also need new RAM. I guess you have DDR3 while current mainboards usually need DDR5. And you might need a new power supply if your power supply doesn't have the right connectors or doesn't supply enough power for a new CPU. A good value option might be a previous generation AMD processor like the Ryzen 5 5600, because its mainboards are cheaper and use DDR4 RAM which is cheaper as well. But of course it won't be as fast as a current generation AMD or Intel processor. You could also look for used parts/computers. I strongly recommend to look at single-core benchmarks from multiple sources for any CPU which you consider buying. Don't be fooled by brands like i7 or ryzen 7 or GHz values, because they are only meaningful to compare CPUs in the same generation. Newer generations outperform older generation CPUs from a better brand/with more GHz. For eu4 the single-core speed is the most important, because eu4 can't make good use of the other cores(but you should still buy a CPU which has at least 4 cores/4 threads). Somewhat of an exception are the X3D processors from AMD(5800X3D, 7800X3D, ...), because their bigger cache is said to speed up paradox games by quite a bit, so they should outperform other CPUs with similar single-core benchmark results(but I have not seen any eu4 benchmarks, so I don't know how reliable that is). But they are still quite expensive.

If you play other games besides eu4, you should also look into what they need when considering a new CPU.

It is not a reason to discourage you from playing eu4. You won't be able to do real time speedruns, but many normal players spend most of their playtime in pause and most of the non-paused play is just letting the game run for a few days till an army arrives in the next province or for a few months till a specific truce runs out or on a slow speed so that you can immediately react when an enemy army appears. So your slow CPU won't slow you down by that much
