has anyone seen this before? i haven't even researched gas source tech yet, and all of a sudden i'm in a deficit situation. i go to check why, it says -.02 gas per month on pops. i check my pops list, and none of my migrants (nor my main species) have any traits that consume gas? i don't have any robots either, I know those have some traits that consume gas, but none present in my empire.

anyone had this before?

luckily the deficit instantly unlocked purchasing gas on the market, so thankfully they added this fallback. i remember when i couldn't buy food cause i wasn't producing any but i had made the mistake of signing a migration treaty before building food districts, and i wasn't allowed to buy food either cause i had no source yet lol. very thankful for the change or this playthrough would be pretty much over.

So just -0.02 total gas per month?

Try checking the Sector/Planet view to see where the charge is coming from and then look at the pops. Think the only way you could get a negative upkeep without robots is if you've got a small fraction of pops with Exotic Metabolism.

Are there any storms affecting your planets? Iirc some storms have a temporary effect with extra upkeep from pops.
i will doublecheck tomorrow (if i launch stellaris now i'll blink and it'll be 5 am lol). but as far as i recall, no storms yet. usually your first storm comes with a popup and this is relatively early game (maybe 50-75% to midgame?). and visually i did not see any. plus i only have my 3 shattered ring segments and the rubricator world, and i know for sure none of them had the storm modifier on the planet view, when i was hunting to see if i had any buildings that had gas upkeep. before i thought of looking at the gas tooltip to see where the cost was going and noticed it was pops.

Possibly you missed it in the one pop that has it. Maybe a subspecies? That or maybe the migrated away so when you went to look you didn't see it?

Hmm. Otherwise something is either marking it as a pop upkeep when it isn't or it's a bug.

This is interesting (and I'm sure frustrating to you).

good call on the subspecies. someone had added exotic metabolism to their variant and they migrated to my territory.
