I saw that one of the changes in 1.05 is that the Pope can't inherit. So when my king's brother and heir became Pope, the Pope's son showed as the heir-presumptive. But when the king died, the box popped up to tell me that he died, then a CTD. The box announcing the new king never popped.

As a quick-fix, try using console cheat to kill the pope. Quick how-to:

1) Click the Pope's portrait, so his character screen pops up
2) Click F12
3) Write die on the console, Pope, as the current selected character, dies

This should handle the problem for you, if the hopping over of pope in succession is the problem.

Please report back did this fix the problem, to check that if that was really the cause of CTD.

Holmes, please provide further information. Does it crash right after your king gets "Death by Old Age / Whatever" event? Do you have similiar thing with the first poster, that Pope would be your next successor, if he wouldn't be Pope?

Yeah, it CTD when the character dies of old age. No, I do not have a similar thing to the previous poster.

Yeah, I figured killing the Pope would be the easy way out. (When's the last time you saw that sentence?!? ) But the next time I loaded, he died first naturally, and when the king finally died years later, succession passed to his nephew without incident.

I'm not certain that the Pope's non-succession was the problem, but it's the only CTD I've had since downloading 1.05 (again, thanks for the much improved patch - this one incident aside, the game is much smoother over long periods and more fun to play.)

Do you by chance have huge loads of titles? There have been reported problems with succession relating to vast lists of titles.

Ok. Thanks for bringing this is to our attention. I'll have to experiment in that, since it could be a real CTD causer.

Holmes, do you have a save from which one can easily reproduce this CTD? Was there anything odd with that game before?

The Game was fine before the CTD. Yes, I have a save near the Time of the CTD.

Would it be possible to host it somewhere? If not, would it be possible to send it as an e-mail attachment?

Holmes, the save you sent for me gives me Loss screen when your king dies and rightly so, as your heirs are not your dynasty. You need to make sure your heirs are same dynasty aka have same surname as you, so that you can continue playing. Sorry for taking so long with it.
