I recall when 1.05 came out, it took a number of months before an Australian patch eventually got leaked (it was never officially released IIRC, although Paradox did acknowledge it after a little bit of initial confusion). Does the same problem exist with 1.06, or will the NA Strategy First 1.06 patch work with the Australian edition?
I'll find out anyways when I get home from work ;-) and post what happens here.
But I'm going to backup my directory first! Coz I'll be very surprised if the patch works...

if it doesn't work, unzip your backup and try the following:

install the German 1.06 patch and then extract only the text.csv file from your backup in your game directory. try this to see if it works...
a lucky guess.

Ah, and if you get multiple versions for the scenarios, use the english one.

Well, I guess I am lucky ;-)
I just did a fresh install of 1.00, installed the 1.06 Strategy First (NA) patch and the game worked for me straight away.
So I guess this is good news for people who have the Australian/New Zealand version ;-) it looks like we don't even need a workaround.
Now to concentrate on the game, hehehe

Thanks. That's handy to know.:)

Oh...and he forgot to mention that you have to put your CD in upside down since you're south of the equator. :D

*just kidding! Don't do it!*

Hi all,

Yep, I can now confirm from my own experience that the NA 106 patch works fine for the Australian "Strategy First" release (as opposed to the Australian "Typhoon Games" release) of EU2. I played a new campaign for about two hours and not a single hic-up - so far so good.

And strangely enough, the game does play ok with the CD upside-down. Now, who would have thought that possible?

"Yeah , right!"

Cheers,

Asterus.

One thing I've always menat to ask....

Do your CDs spin in the opposite direction? :D

(no need to reply)

Hi all,

Unfortunately, I've just experienced my first crash to the desktop playing EU2 (Australian Strategy First version) with the NA 106 patch. This occured after about 11 hours of playing all up - around 46 years of game time (from around 1419 - 1465 or thereabouts).

But apart from that, its still considerably better and more stable than with the Australian 105 patch.

Ciao,

Asterus.

PS: I wonder if this has anything to do with my CDs spinning in the 'opposite direction'. Hmm.

Occasional CTDs are, sadly, seemingly unavoidable but considerably rarer these days. If you use the autosave on a yearly or 3-year basis you should lose very little when the inevitable happens. Glad you're up and running smoothly now. :)
