Without pause at 3 speeds I only get 20-25 fps, plus the game occasionally lags/freezes. With every new major patch the situation gets worse and worse. Although restarting partly helps, to restart every 30-60 minutes.

A lot of errors in that log that i don't see in my installation, but I haven't played this game since the latest patch.

Any mods involved?

Does this happen right from the start in 1444? Or only in mid or late game play?

Does reducing resolution, or graphics quality settings, help?

Does it matter what speed you play at? Particularly speed 5 vs slower speeds (as 5 is very different to the others).

Xorme - AI
Russian localization
Responsible Warfare (sometimes)

No

I always use 3. It's clear that the higher the speed, the worse it is, but some lags also occur during a pause if use different interface elements, e.g. browsing different areas, provinces

We can't help with modded games here I'm afraid. What happens if you start a new campaign with no mods at all in use, any better?

It's the same without mods
I've already tried deleting the contents of /home/user/.local/share/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/
And I verified the files in Steam

I don't know then ... the Linux and Mac versions tend to be slower due to using OpenGL , but I'm not sure that accounts for your experience.

Can you see if the CPU, GPU, memory or any other component is maxing out when the performance is at its worst?

Mangohud shows that the video is supposedly 100% loaded, but it always appears that way
The CPU is loaded at ~10%
Can try to run Windows version with Proton, does it make sense? Surely someone has tested this before
Compared to my old config i5-3570k + GTX 970, the new one performs better, but only by about 20%

No, I still think it's useless to discuss my individual case here. EU4 engine has long been overloaded, need to reduce the number of provinces by at least 20%, cut manpower and force limit by 2 times, reduce the number of events, increase development costs of provinces by 2 times and so on. And EU4 is already a grandmother that looks noticeably worse than CK2, time to retire.

Did some experiments:
Windows version with Proton runs worse than native one, at least it takes 2 times longer to load.
It turns out that the performance is greatly affected by antialiasing, I used to use 0, but then it somehow became 2. But it still doesn't explain anything, here's a page in Steam https://store.steampowered.com/app/236850/Europa_Universalis_IV/ it says this: "System Graphics requirements: Nvidia® GeForce™ GTX 560 Ti", - 5700G is an APU but its performance is +- GTX 1050 and what does that mean?

Something like this, GTX 560 Ti is not even suitable for minimum
Have you tried that card on various systems? And what is the meaning of minimum for you? The steam page lists a GTX 460 as the minimum requirement which is +161% faster than the Intel HD Graphics 530 which I'm using(according to userbenchmark.com). And I get around 40-50 FPS when the game is paused and around 20-25 FPS on speed 3 in 1444 (with minimum graphics settings but a full HD resolution). That's perfectly adequate for me, though I usually use mods like "afps and shader boost" to reduce the noise from my laptop fan. And I'm using Linux as well(ubuntu 22.04). That you describe a similar performance on a system which probably has more than 3 times the graphical capabilities than mine makes me suspect that this issue might be worse on your system than on others. How is your performance in other games compared to the GTX 1050? But many people complain about low performance on high end systems while almost nobody complains that it is unplayably slow for them(and the few who do seem to consider everything below 30 FPS unplayable, even though eu4 is not time sensitive, so even 10 FPS while paused would be playable). So I think you might need very specific setups to get very high FPS out of eu4, but even slow systems get playable speeds.

Edit: do you happen to use wayland? That has caused problems in combination with multisampling in the past, so I might be worth a try to see how x11 performance

Disclaimer: I'm not working for Paradox. I'm just trying to help people.

GTX 560 Ti? No, my previous card was GTX 970

low settings, 1080p, 30 fps may be
Intel HD Graphics 530
I first ran EU 4 with GT 8800 in 2015, but it's became unplayable from the middle of the game. I don't see how Intel APU and EU4 can be used now

Well, 5700G is slightly worse than GTX 1050, even if increase RAM frequency to 4400, although GTX 1050 only has 2 GB VRAM when 5700G can use 16 GB.
Most of my games are indie. So, ok, let's say I find in my library https://store.steampowered.com/app/233130/Shadow_Warrior/ 2k resolution, conditional medium settings and I get comfortable smooth 55-70 FPS.

Primarily because EU4 can't multi-core and is generally poorly run, so problems will occur on any configuration, even if FPS meter shows 120, you'll still notice lags.

I use X11
