Hi!

I reinstalled CK2 yesterday after not playing it for a year or so, and I'm having a strange issue with lag which I never encountered before (I'm using the exact same laptop).

I've timed it, and every two minutes the game becomes really laggy for about ten seconds, before going back to normal. This happens both when it's running and when it's paused. I've tried disabling trees, but it makes no difference.

Any ideas what might be causing this and what I can do to fix it?

Thanks! :)

Does this happen right from the start of a new game? Or only in mid or late game, or only after playing for a while?

DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/CK2/settings.txt.
From your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ folder, attach system.log .

I see you are running the game on an Intel video system, which is not supported hardware for this game, And it has a video driver from 2016. But if that used to work okay I guess it should still.

I see nothing else in those files of concern. Generally the game should be run at the native resolution of your monitor 1920 x 1080 but I doubt that is your issue.

What antivirus app do you use? Do you have any other intrusive apps, security utilities, anything like that?

Thanks for taking a look!

I just use the built-in Windows Defender program. I think the only thing that's changed since I last played is my backup program - I used to use IDrive but now I've got Zoolz.

Does disabling that make any difference?

And you may as well do a deep scan with at least two AV apps other than WD, say MalWareBytes and Spybot are two good free ones.

If that's not it, I got nothing! Install and run the free utility Speccy, export its output to a text file and attach that here please.

The only things I can see what might cause this are:

C:\Users\aless\AppData\Local\FluxSoftware\Flux\flux.exe
C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay_1.16.1012.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe\GameBar.exe
MANY iDrive processes still running - if you don't use it any more like you say, you need to uninstall it

See if you can unload/exit those.

I don't really have any other ideas why this is happening to you, I have to say.

What about adding CK2game.exe and the CK2 folder in Documents to the exceptions/exclusions in Windows Defender ?
