CTD on Autosave

I'm currently running v1.02 on WinXP. My puter is a Dell Dimension 4600, 2.8GHz Pentium processor, 512 Mb of RAM. I'd been playing Ireland with no problems several times (well, problems with Crusades expectations, but that's been documented). I switched over to playing Byzantium. Options were set for Autosave every 10 months. Happily playing my game, when all of a sudden...CTD. I restarted, and selected "autosave" for loading. The autosave file was empty. I couldn't select a kingdom, duchy, or county to play, as none were listed in the menu. Went back to "oldautosave" and it loaded, played fine, until the next time to autosave when....CTD again. Same symptoms on restart. Tried rebooting my puter, everything.

Thought, "Gee, well maybe this is a bug specific to Byzantium." Went to playing Castille. Played okay, until after a while...CTD at autosave (by the way, it never gets to the point where it says, "autosaving" at the top of the screen--it just dies). So, I loaded "oldautosave", and am now MANUALLY saving, as well as autosaving...with no further incidents at this time. Manual saves seem to work okay, if the autosave CTD problem continues to show itself, I may disable it entirely, though I'd rather not...

I played some more last night, this time starting up a new Byzantium campaign, same settings as before--hard/aggressive, fast speed, 10 month autosave. This time, no CTDs on autosave. I don't know what is causing it, but it's not something I can reproduce. :( It was happening with great frequency the day before however. I'll post again if I find it starts up again.

I have gotten two CTD's on autosave. I chock them up to the fact that the Air Conditioning is not working in my house and CPU was running upwards of 64 degrees C. (Over 150 F)

Not all game crashes are software related and can be caused by the strangest things in our computers.

Glad that it is working for you now.

OK, I have seen enough report of autosave CTD in 1.02 on this forum now.

It's probably very hard to reproduce, so very hard to fix, though :(
