Ah! Learn something new every day.

Thanks Jodel!

Hmmm, I just checked an old post, but don't seem to see what you are talking about. Can you elaborate further?
This is how it works on the mobile interface

- Click on your own avatar picture in the top right part of the forum page, to bring up a menu from which your can navigate to your personal information, contact details, privacy, preferences etc, and (quite far down the list) "ratings received"

- Click "ratings received"

- This will bring up a list of ratings received by your posts, in chronological order, and will show who gave you those ratings

The author of a post can see who clicked which feedback button on that post. Other forum readers can't see that though afaik.
Yes, do tell us how to determine who clicked which feedback button in the author's own post.

Brilliant. My thanks.

Come again?

If I read that correctly, he posted almost exactly at the same time we did, and did not follow up to acknowledge understanding your instructions.

But, as your instructions were spot on, that is merely an educated guess.

But, then again, you disagreed with me twice, so what do you know. :p

Please understand that it was meant as polite disagreement :)

No worries. I am sure you know I was kidding. You and I have had far too many pleasant exchanges over the years for me to take offense.

The great value of this forum is the WEALTH of different viewpoints and different individuals who have very specialized knowledge from around the globe.

God knows I’m not always right, and I enjoy having my opinions questioned.

Politely. Of course.;)

tl;dr of most of the posts in this thread so far:

"I'm the king of the castle and you're the dirty rascal"

I for one am enjoying the unfolding Volksmarschall-Andre bromance.

You and I are well familiar with one another from over the years. Way back when, you saw me unfold the full force of my personality and attempt to prove my point through force and pointed sarcasm, only to be struck down by lightning bolts from above for valid and understandable reasons.

Only a fool keeps running into a brick wall. My ideas have not changed, but my presentation has, and I am much happier for it.

This is a kinder, gentler, Andre. Diplomacy and understanding have proven far more valuable weapons than naked aggression. ;)

God knows I’m always not right,

Fixed a minor mistake for you

In a more serious tone, I tend to think that the 'dates and facts' side of history is critical to the understanding side - it is the data that informs and refutes opinions and the better posters on this forum (of which I include Andre Bolkonsky as one in spite of the fact I interpret the world in a very different way to him) generally supply the information that informs their decisions.

Without the dry gathering of data the science (in the broader sense of the term) of history cannot happen but the dry data is not history, any more than a bunch of animal population data is ecology.

As such I tend to disagree with Volksmarchall's view of history - I think it is a solid field of study when performed correctly and I find that a great deal of good history gets discussed on this forum. I do agree that the history Youtube channels tend to be fairly bad often being little more than clickbait or political polemical dressed up as history.

@Henry IX

You know that is an infraction these days, yes?

I'll give you a few minutes to delete it.

You're welcome.

Sorry, posted it before the rest of the comment that puts it into perspective. I hold your opinion in high regard even when I disagree with it. I will of course delete it if you find it insulting.

If you had offended me, i wouldn't have sent you a polite heads up and instead would have included your post in a direct quote. But I am hard to offend; it can be done, but it takes a lot more effort than a clever one liner.

I do appreciate the compliment. No one ever agrees with my positions, which is why I'm so careful about citing my trains of logic. ;)

However, I have been warned that changing other people's words, even when complimentary, is dangerous. I'm not about to complain, but the mods have been known to strike like the Spanish Inquisition. No one ever expect them.
