First of all, I'm sorry if this has already been posted, but I didn't find this on the first few pages.

- Prussia vs Austro-hungary didn't really happen in 1866

Both of them were still at war with Denmark since the Holstein issue. Denmark had only Odense left, with her fleet lurking around it, which denied enemy armies any access to the island. There were no more battles as far as I can tell, but the war lastest well beyond 1866. In 1866, the war between prussia and Austro Hungary erupted, but non of them started any fights and the war ended after a few months with a white peace. I suspect this was because of war attrition, which was about 100% for both prussia and austro-hungary.

- Prussia and the North-German Union (Norddeutscher Bund)

Why aren't prussia and the Union melted to a northern Germany? Historically, this was what should have happend. Instead, prussia still sits there and the northern german territories are unified to the union, but both get the same flags. *wonder*

- warmongers

Austro Hungary won't start any fight when beaten by any nation. Same goes for Prussia. If any nation wins a war, she is very likely to start another really fast, eg Russia.
UK waged a 6 years war against Japan, after the latter annexed Korea and Vietnam, with no peace offerings for the first 5 years. (I played Japan).

- Japan

I find it very hard to develop Japan in the GC and have no idea how to update my techs and stuff for Tsushima in time (1905). I think they should get a few more techs, especially navy, when getting civilised.

- Transports

In tha war mentioned above (UK vs Japan), the british shipped about a million men to east asia. This would have been a tremendous effort historically, but here you just take your divisions, put them in a tranport and a few weeks later, they're in place. There should be a sea limit for ships, much like HoI, so the AI would at least be forced to supply her forces from somewhere. In generel, a supply system would add much realism to the game.

- Harbours at Kiel and Flensburg

The Harbours are facing the baltic sea, not the north sea.

- Leaders

I don't know why, but my leaders seem to die very fast, some 4-5 years is the longest servicetime I saw. Plus I strangely don't get any more leadership at some point of the game. This happened when I played as prussia, austro-Hungary and Japan.

I also wonder about the lack of sea attrition, which pretty much makes the coaling stations useless. Also have to wonder why you can't build a colonial fort to defend your coaling station.

I'm also with you on the problem of AI that simply will not accept reasonable peace deals, especially when they turn around and offer gigantic swaths of good provinces a month later. I think that it's necessary to simulate WWI. The problem is, it makes it almost impossible to accurately simulate things like the Spanish-American war.

There are a lot of map errors in terms of ports (a port in Portland, Oregon is just as good as the one in San Francisco), repeated province names, RGO levels, livability index (Los Angeles is better than Boston?), and railroad potential (I'd really like to see what the Integrated Rail System of Papua New Guinea looks like). I think most of this is necessary for balance and accomodating the game engine.

I've just started my first Japan GC, and it's really dragging. My plan for development is to take colonial claims in the Pacific and trade them for tech. Seems like it would be virtually impossible to get them to historic 1920 levels by following a historic path.

I didn't run into the leader mortality problem, and when my rate of replacement went down, I'd turn a POP into an officer.

Japan development

I don't know when Japan actually took control over Korea, but claiming her as fast as possible is vital for Japan. You'll get a really big bunch of PoPs and thus more than enough soldiers. But since Japan will get civlised only about 1870s, you'll loose really much time.

In terms of historical accuraty, this may be right, but in terms of game balancing, Japan ist virtually unplayable.

Offiver mortality

Since I tend to use my pops otherwise, I don't have any to spare for that job.

Incorrect

The 2nd slesvig war ended with an armistice July 20th 1864. The peace treaty was signed October 30th 1864 in Vienna - Denmark loosing the three duchies Slesvig, Holsten and Lauenborg.

He's talking about the game he played not real life!

Having gotten further into Japan (1888), I have to say that giving them more tech at restoration time would probably unbalance the game. Korea falls easily, considering its value, and as soon as the BB and RR wear off, China can be taken. That was tougher, but annexing and releasing them gets you some good provinces and enough prestige to make you a world power. The BB earned me a DOW from Russia, but with my UK ally I'm not too worried. I probably won't be getting all the techs until just before the end of the game (if at all--still have 40+ to research), but Japan is definitely in a position to finish 1st in SP, and near the top in MP. In my opinion, balance sometimes has to trump history.
