So, I've not played that much of CK, but I decided to give it a try agian (I stoped playing because I had been playing it on a normal screen but then got a widescreen and that made it wierd).
I started playing as the Kingdom of Sweden and I didn't do much; I conqured the pagen states in north of sweden and finland and made them my vassals.
then i sat back and didn't do much.
The usual swedish states all joined up as my vassals, nothing strange there. What was strange what what was to come.

First a Norwegian state asked to become my vassal. Ok, not that strange I guess. Then Ödsel did the same. still not that strange it's just across the baltic sea. Then 3 other Norwegian states joined up. Then 2 south german states asked to become my vassals, followed by 4 states in south eastern UK, 1 in Ireland, Normany and another French state, a Italian state, Bornholm and several states just north of Venice.
when my first king died he had 32 vassal states, and over 70 provinces in the realm (while only controlling one and the rest being owned by the vassals). The list of Vassal states doesn't fit on the ingame screen.

is it common for half of europe to get in line to be reuled by you? or was my king really just that awesome and loved?

yes ... if you are playing DV and have not applied the latest Beta-patch :)

There is a bug in DV where Relations would go up every time you reload, eventually everybody loves everyone, and then independents would start pledging to whomever was the most powerful/prestigious.

I have applied the beta patch AND the break free mod that should help the crazy pledge-problem, but there are stilll a lot of it going on. Is there anything else one can do so vassals don't plead randomly to kings far far away, instead of the closer ones?

Have you applied the latest beta-patch?? .... from October 2008??

I never have the problem of independents declaring to people outside their natural territory, unless that ruler holds titles in that area.

With the beta-patch properly applied, you should not see the Duke of Porto pledge to the king of Scotland (unless the King of Scotland also is the King of Portugal) ... or the Prince of Kiev pledging to the Byzantines.
