has anyone ever worked on making a whole new map ?

I mean not just move/add/remove some borders/provinces

I'm still working on one from time to time, but I've no idea if I'll ever get it to a releasable version. Initially I had the idea of just modding a map by adding new provinces, but now I'm looking more at making a new one from scratch. It's more work initially, but should be more flexible overall.
It's incredibly difficult, and making one that looks as good as the vanilla one is out of the question for me.

Mapmaking for CK in principle is no different than making one for EU2 or Victoria, but as this community is a lot smaller I don't know of any projects for it.

Very nice idea! I think Kurek was also thinking of doing a smaller but more detailed map, in his case of the British Isles, but I don't know what came of that.
If you manage to get this to a release, please also post it here. :)

I like the artstyle of the graphics. Are you using something as a template, or is this handdrawn?

handdrawn with help by templates (today's swiss borders and canton ; hydrography ; and relief)

no timeplan
before end of year should be a reasonnable objective

until today i worked alone on this project.
it demands spending lots of time and i don't have tons of it, so i progress very slowly

first "pure technical" aspect of the map could be tested this weekend ; even if almost nothing is made on the data event files.

a few other screens from older versions : map of counties and duchies with coa

there have been changes in borders names coa etc.... but it is to make a more precise idea of the project

I have created a Middle Earth map from scratch. I stumbled across the excellent program made by Jaime550 which really needs to have a greater presence in the CK forums (http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=360870) and after much heartache and a setback which nearly had me giving up (damn you rogue grey pixels) I succeded.

Although I created the entire North West of Middle Earth I currently plan on releasing an Arnor mod first and if that goes well I will work on releasing characters and contries for the whole map.

The Arnor part is very close to being finished (I was only going to mention this in the forum until I had completely finished but I saw this post). Here is a Screenshot of Cardolan, and another zoomed out. All that remains to be done chaning the characters, assigning unique dynasties, stats and protraits and creating the COAs for Arthedain and Rhudaur and Angmar (wont take me much more than 2 weeks).

wow looks like it is a great work

i'm not so advanced in my mod

i see some mountains aren't affected to any province I think it is to make them non crossable... is it the only way to do this ?
I will block too some passages on my map but i'm going to manage it with the province connection tool mentionned in the mapmaker tuto ; have you tested it ?
