Am I alone in not wanting to have much research in this this game? It just dosn't seem like it should be there...maybe I am strange...

well, military research may not seem much for the era, but it was pretty important.... the infantry slowly defeated the knight system, the longbow and the swiss halebardiers, artillery...

From what I have heard there won't be much. From the Stratey Gamer Online interview (link in the FAQ):
The technological system also is addressed. Rather than the linear tech development found in EU2, CK players will be able to direct their efforts. In each century there are five available techs to develop in only four areas of advance: Military, Industrial, Cultural, and Commercial. Each tech advance takes a flat amount (currently 200 ducats, but I’m guessing this will be tweaked during play testing) and a variable amount of time to achieve (but all five of a century’s advances must be achieved before starting on the next).

Well, we'll wait and see. Hopefully it won't be possible to blast your enemies into the dust with cannon by 1100.

Since field artillery didn't come into significant use until after the game period I'm pretty sure this won't happend... :D

Sure field artillery won't be there - but a few bombards might loosen up the ranks a little and send some horses skittering.:)

Sure. A few maybe, but AFAIK it wasn't until the very last year of the game period that "artillery" actually played a decisive role in a battle. :)

True.

Hope it turns out that way in the game too.:)
