I don't know if this will help someone, but, I had crashes
with the date, the date would go grey & freeze, you could check everything but the turn never progressed past 11-1-96, basicaly freezing the game at that point. the last time it happened was in the GC on November 1st, 1496. In trying to figure something out, I went back into the message screen and un-did those that I had checked off as message in box & pause. I re-did to just message in box. I then re-booted a saved game several turns prior to 11-1-96 and game continued and never locked up again. I played it up to 1598 and still no further freeze up. I then started another game, took Russia again, made sure those boxs weren't checked as box and pause and I'm into the 1600's have not had another freeze up by the Date. I don't know if this will continue but so far it seems to work. I don't know if this helps anyone with the same problem but so far it seems to work.
Also with desk top crashes I found that turning the music off in options has cut down on these types of crashes...

just some ideas Mac

Despite a well maintained machine (defragged regularly etc etc) and the latest patch, I still get crashes and bugs galore having spent months with the game. Mind you, I only have 256Mb RAM, so perhaps that's not enough, Patric. I'm glad I don't produce the the level of serveice to my clients that you do to yours.

Have you ever experienced support frome EA and Microsoft?
Probably not, otherwise you wouldn't complain about Paradox. At least, they don't refer us to their publisher for support, wich in turn either states that there is no such thing as a bug or that you must e-mail them back in a week if still can't solve your problem

I had many many crashes when running EU on my faster PC, so moved to a slower PC and have had very, very few. But here is the something way cool. Last night I was playing, heard my hard drive whirr and then crash to desktop. My Norton Anti-virus kicked in, so I thought, "Oh well, back to autosave file". Then, two hours later Norton goes away and I notice EU on the taskbar. I clicked on it and bingo, right back where I was - in a war with Brandenburg. Who says EU isn't a robust system?

Similar experience, only this happens only occasionally -- but very annoying when it happens right after I've accomplished something great (like defeating the Scots). I believe I've tried everything suggested here (e.g., no music, latest update, drivers, etc....) Are occasional crashes to desktop just something to live with? Or are only a few of us experiencing this phenomenon?

 Jennifer, I'm fairly new to this forum, but in reading the threads especially in the support section, it appears that desk top crashes are the biggest problem that most everyone has. Some of the fixs mentioned in the support threads help cut down on the amount of them, but until patched, we just have to live with them and do the best we can. You may want to look at some of the threads for mentioned ideas to cut down on the number you get. good luck

Vegger, make sure you kill all other running apps, especially anti-virus apps before you run EU. Try running the no music version. If that helps you probably need more ram. Also try running the game slower. You don't say, but make sure patch 1.09 is applied.
