Summary
After declaring great holy war, game becomes unusably slowDescription
After declaring a great holy war, everything seemed ok for a week or two, then the game became slower and slower. I tried changing it from normal speed to 5-speed (fastest) but it felt like it was running at maybe 1-speed maximum instead. There is also some delay between me clicking on a speed change/pause and that click actually applying, so it seems to be just a general game lag.I'm assuming the problem is my game is too big and it can't handle all the allied troops moving at once but that doesn't really make me feel happier about no longer being able to declare great holy wars. My last great holy war, probably around 30 years ago, was fine, as was my holy war for a duchy a few months ago. I haven't noticed any problems with my giant empire until now, beyond some lag for some character searches, so having it blow up like this was rather unexpected.
Also 5 out of 8 times, when trying to exit the game after it became this slow, it got stuck on "Saving" and never actually finished saving my game. The time it saved and I tried continuing with the war, my game was still just as slow as before the restart.
Steps to reproduce
Load the attached save game. Declare a great holy war for the Samanid kingdom. Wait until about April 22-24.( I tried declaring a great holy war on Lotharingia instead and that actually worked ok as long as I didn't try to raise my troops. When I raised my troops, the game began slowing down but not as rapidly as when I was at war with the Samanids. For the Samanid kingdom, the slow down seemed to reliably occur whether or not I raised any of my own armies, so since the Samanids have more troops and allies, it seems to be a problem with the overall number of active armies on the map.)
