I bought my game back in 2001 when it came out. It crashed a few times when playing on my old computer a windows 98. I allways thought it was the computer. With in the last year, I bought a windows XP and the game still crashes, Even with the latest patch downloaded. I need some help why this game crashes.

So does it say "1.09" as you start it up? Just confirming the patch applied successfully.
Have you applied any mods?
In what way does it actually crash? Does it happen whether starting a new game or playing an old one? Is it triggered by any particular action or event?
Have you done the usual recommended things like renaming the AVI directory, setting the color depth to 16bit, and updating your video and sound drivers?

When i download patch ver.9 when i start the game and enter the main menu the ver. says 1.07 and not 1.09. when the game crashes it sometimes does it when i start somtimes when a event pops up and i push somthing. And it could crash anytime during the game. Most of the time i can go though 50-100 years before it crashes. Somtimes a very small chance i have played though a full game with no crashes. If i buy a new game it might work. This game might be buged.
Firstly, simply downloading the 1.09 patch is not sufficient - you have to actually apply it too. If it is a .exe file simply double-click on it, it should install. If it is a .zip file you have to extract it to the directory you have EU2 installed in.
If you had already done that, or it doesn't help, then probably you have had more than one EU2 installation on this machine and the patch is confused about where to install itself. You should uninstall (copy valued save games elsewhere first) - full instructions here. Then defrag your hard disk, install EU2 then 1.09 immediately.

I downloaded ver 1.09 and i installed it right to the EU2 folder and it worked. Some of the sound effects and improvments. The game crashes somtimes when click back to main menu after playing a game. 2nd if i'm done playing the game and go to quit it freezes and i shut down my computer by holding the power botton Ever since bought this game its crashed froze up. It's a really good game. But i can never get into it becuse of the crashes. This game sure as a lot of problems.
