Weird game...I umm..tampered a little bit with the game files, and now am able to play Fantasy Scenario. It's running very smoothly. But it's so booooring! I want the REAL game! It's weird you see, I can play now but it takes forever when I try run GC or the other scenarios. One day in the game takes about 3.5 minutes!!! and I have set it so it would be 4 months/minute. So why is it so d*mn slow??? Fantasy works!! Why isn't GC running properly? Anyone? :(

Some questions:
Your GC is running very slow. In previous posts you say the mousepointer is very slow. Now if you have the GC running and another program on your computer, what happens if you switch to that other program with Alt-tab ? Does it behave normally then ?

Have you checked:
swapfile
drivers
start the GC immediately after a reboot
with all the other programs closed when playing EU (also the ones on your taskbar)
with music off

I havent tried switching programs with alt-tab, but am willing to try anything! I have tried too play with music off but it doesn't make any differnce. I also have tried rebooting and then play plus closing all unesseray applications. I haven't figured out any logical reason why it doesn't work. I mean if am able to play the Fantasy Scenario it shouldn't be the videocard that is out of date. Plus the computer that EU doesn't work is slightly better than my other one. As for the swapfiles and drivers am not sure what you mean.
 
I broke down last year and got a 677, but used a 233 for ages before. Here are some general tips:

- defrafg the drive
- fix the size of your swap file at x2 ram
- reboot, close any virus checker, pause task scheduler, hit alt-ctrl-del (once) look for any apps that run without a icon (i.e. Direct CD etc.
- check for the most current drivers for sound card and video
- if using direct x 8 try version 7 (smaller footprint)

The fact that the Fantasy scenario runs OK and the GC not, makes it a very interesting problem.

Drivers:
go to program files. There should be a folder directX and a folder setup in there. Somewhere there should be a program dxdiag. Run that program, choose the tab display and perform the tests.
Swapfile:
Right-click the icon mycomputer and choose properties. Choose the tab performance. There are 3 buttons, file system, graphics and virtual memory. Press virtual memory and post what you see there. Also post the free space on your HD, especially the C-drive, when you have split your HD.

I got a desktop with AMD Athlon 1.2GHz processor, 40GB hard drive, 2-256 MB PC133 SDRAM chips, 1- 128MB PC133 SDRAM chip for a total of 640MB ram, an ATI Radeon VE graphics card, a 24x/48x RW/CDROM (burner/cdrom), with lovely Boston speakers, and Windows ME for $700. Get a new computer dude. :D

Actually, I will admit, I also have nothing but problems with this game, but it's mostly crashes and not "slowness". Pah! slowness...haha, thats funny. My computer knows not that word!

Oh, and to reiterate what was mentioned before...If you are so stubborn or poor (but poor not likely since you will pay half now of what you prolly did for your old comp) that you cannot replace your pc, then DEFRAG, UPDATE BIOS, CTRL-ALT-DEL and S/D all progs 'cept systray and explorer, Update video card and sound card drivers, get a free up ram utility. When's the last time you formatted C: ? I know when I format my hard drives, it breaths new life into my comp.

D3wd, check out www.pricewatch.com , they got computers so cheap it ain't funny :eek:
 
It works!! Halelujah! EU is working on both machines! That is if I turn virus scan off, no music and I have to start a game then save, exit, reboot and finally reload. Still doesn't know WHY I have to do it but it works and thats whats matter.

Eire..you see..I have the money too buy a new computer. But buying a new one just so I can play EU is a bit over the top don't you think? It's a great game but..naaah. Furthermore I can't buy from that company you suggested 'cause I don't want a american keyboard or OS. English is not my native tounge.

BTW, which virusscanner ? Maybe important for other people.

I look into it when I get home can't remember the name now. Am at work so am trying to get som sleep...:)

I think the virus scan is umm..F-Secure. Always a pleasure to have celebrities like yourself visiting my threads. :D
