Since I got the game (almost 2 years now), I've always had this issue. Basically, the sound effects (music tune that plays when an event pops up, all the clicking & ticking sounds when you click/press anything, alert notifications, the ambient voices, the religion tab music... pretty much all sounds except for the actual OST music. They'll begin to fade in & out. Sometimes they'll recover, sometimes they'll continue fading in & out, sometimes I'll wind up playing in total silence (except w/ the OST playing). Some sounds stay at full volume, while others fade. Then the fading starts becoming dynamic, and continuously changes volume for each sound. It's like some gremlin is messing w/ my audio volume settings, as I'm playing.

I've learned to work around it by 'not clicking too fast'... because I believe overlapping sound effects are what usually trigger the problem. But once the problem starts, you never really know what's going to happen... it goes on a long audio glitch journey & no trip is identical to another. Not uncommon for this to start happening within 5 minutes of playing. I usually tolerate it until I wind up playing in silence... then I have to restart. B/c you don't realize how much you rely on the audio cues in this game, until they're all silent.

Anyway, I've always been dealing with this, and it only happens in this game. Just curious if anyone else experiences this. I try not to get jealous when watching streams of other players.... "wow, must be nice to not have audio issues."

And no, I'm not on Linux. Win 10. I actually wanted to be a Linux user, and couldn't do it... b/c the audio just didn't work at all on my PC. If I were a software engineer that knew how to fix my own driver issues, I'd still be a Linux user. But alas, I need a team of people at Microsoft to do it for me. (you get what you pay for)

But again, it's only this game. Aside from this, I have zero audio issues on this rig.

I'm not sure i understand your problem...
Assuming you are not talking about the standard sounds of the tabs (miltary, intrigue, etc) when open, then...
check Game Options - Audio and deselect "Dynamic Ambient Sounds".

That sound changes is normal and depends on the screen situation.

Of course there are also the sound effects when zoomed in (sea waves, birds) contrary to zoomed out (wind) etc...
Then there's your own settings in the Audio tab which can change it...

I have 'dynamic ambient' sounds disabled... I can't stand birds chirping & dogs barking, wind howling, etc. No I mean the actual sound effects. Every button you press makes a ticking sound. A couple of days ago, the 'men yelling in battle' sound effect was totally faded/muted, so when I was looking at a battle, I heard the *CLANK* of melee weapons, the *SWISH* of arrows, but absolutely no people yelling. Sounded like a blacksmith shop.

That's just one example of a single sound effect going totally mute. Sometimes certain sounds go quiet, then they recover. Or maybe they mute completely. Every time you left click on a province, the game makes a ticking sound. Once this 'anomaly' begins to happen, I can rapidly click a province over and over, and every tick is a different volume.

Sometimes it's like an old engine that won't start. I'll click the province over and over... silent... silent... *quiet*.... quiet... little louder... silent... silent... quiet... quiet.... FULL SOUND, yes!! It started! But will it stay that way?

Anyway, if anyone else has this issue, they'll know exactly what I'm talking about. I was just curious if anyone else in the entire world experiences it. I don't even have it w/ other PDX games. Just CK2.

"Dynamic Ambients Sounds" is not about en- or disabling ambient sound though.
That's what you do with the slider.
The on/off option changes fading and volume of sounds at times, especially when opening and closing the top tabs.

Maybe you are paused and/or don't actually do much ?
When i'm paused for a while, sound goes pretty silent.
As you experienced, being active gets the sound going again.

Battle sounds can be different, but i'm not sure what it's based on when you hear what.
Just see the number of different sound files for that.

Anyway, i'll leave it to tech support. No worries. :p:D
If you want to ask around for experience, then the general CK2 forum is usually better.

Speaking of being paused, every time you pause or unpause the game, it makes a sound effect. Imagine when that sound effect goes mute. Like I said before, you don't realize how much you listen to the sounds & rely on them when you're playing until they're acting up. Whatever, I can live with it. I just wish I at least could figure out a good work-around. Right now I basically play the game with my fingers crossed the whole time. Sometimes I actually have a good session with minimal problems. Other times, it goes completely haywire.
