For a DLC focused on biological species, I think we got a bit too few traits for biological species.
We got 16 new phenotype traits, for 12 phenotypes.
That is very little in my opinion, Especially when some of them are just one trait split into two levels (Example: Flight and Spatial Mastery)
Also no (real) new traits for Genetically Ascending.
Some of them are also quite bland.
Chromalogs: Extra Physicist and Bureaucrat Efficiency, some governing ethics attraction and army health, but at such a high cost that it's hard to take it with other positive traits.

The negative traits are more interesting, but suffers from the amount of free or near-free negative traits like Repugnant and Unruly.

If I had to have a criticism of traits...they're just boring in general. Almost all of them are. +% boost just isn't interesting. I know it's a staple of the genre, but I think if a system was being designed from the ground up, I'd want something else.* Maybe it's also partly that the whole system feels like you are supposed to min-max and doesn't really do much for creatively expressing an idea for a species. I realize min-maxing is always going to happen, but when you have a system that just gives flat bonuses and penalties, that really encourages it.

*I don't have any great ideas here. But if they were going to keep a system like what we have now, then I almost think you should have unlimited points, but the more points you spend, the more expensive your species is in just about every way. Or some other system that gives automated penalties or from a more curated list based on what you chose for bonuses. Hmm, I'd have to think about it.

I'm disappointed with biogenesis overall. Compare to machine age you get 3 almost identical Ascension paths that share 3 traditions when in machine age robot ascension felt all different (even tho not balanced) and you got cybernetics and synthetic as bonus.
And most biogenesis advanced authorities are just copy paste of each other while in machine age they gave you unique building edicts agendas and even bonuses were more original you got bonuses for enforcers, bonuses for max districts, authority that made you hive mind mid game ect
