I would like to buy a box copy of Victoria 2, do I need to install "steam" inorder to play Victoria 2? I have bad experience with "Steam" and 2 of my games are invalid suddenly due to "Steam" problem.
No need for steam to play a boxed version of Victoria 2.

Registration of your game has nothing to do with playing your game. Registration just attaches a code to your forum-account that you own V2. It doesn't matter that you play it on different computers.

All you need to do to register is fill in your CD-key, you only need to do that once and that is it.

Which I'm afraid totally misses the point. I want to register when I install. When I posted that I was on a work computer, where I generally post but do not play from. I was bounced from posting on Vicky II. If I had registered _when_ I installed that would not have been a problem. Why can't it just be handled as part of the install? There should be nothing preventing that. I'm a Senior Software Developer specializing in UI, you shouldn't take your users out of the experience if it can be avoided. This should be automated.

That and you didn't address the fact that the installer is broken.

And now I am greeted with my second gripe. I just went to register and happily copied said CD key to the clipboard, and whipped back here (I'm at home now and using Steam).

How is the user experience then? Well, I can't _paste_ said CD key since the forum requires entering it by hand. This is stone age tech. It would be better if the form was one field (so I can paste) and had javascript for the dashes (instead of the easier but less friendly separate boxes).

So then I type in said code and hit register. Lo! The same page loads with _zero_ confirmation that I entered a correct code and no list of registered product. So I have to pop back into the forums to see if it took.

This is bad design, and I say that not to be a jerk about it, but because it detracts from an awesome product line when it doesn't have to.

I've generally found Steam to be the best thing that happened to the PC industry. That being said, bad things happen. I've never, ever, ever had a problem with _Steam_ proper. If you give us some hints we might be able to help you work out your issue.

Double posting is considered bad form and against the rules, let alone Quadruple posting. :)

Regarding the auto registration, some people are paranoid and do not want to have the computer do anything like that, and may not even want to manually register.
You would also have to enter your Forum info, and registration code manually anyway, so it would be faster to click the internet hit Pdox from your favourites, and have the cookie log you in then enter the code.
You can copy & Paste each section just not the whole thing, that could be a limitation of the current version of Vb, I am not sure, as I did not code the registration section.

Is is just me or has Castellon been nicer of late? The positive mood in the Vicky 2 forum must be getting to him.

What do you mean "of late" you ^%$@%$@ son of a %^#@&$* I have always been a *#^%@% nice guy!

I have to agree with this one...
After copying and pasting over 30 codes to register all my games over the years,
i have to say its really a chore to put in a code to register and it allways makes me *sigh* when i have to do it,
i love my icons, and i am proud to display them to show i am a loyal paradoxian,
but the code enter process could be really improved :)

Adding a serial key takes, say, 15 seconds. So you have wasted 7.5 minutes of your precious life adding your little icons. ;)

Though the code adding page could be improved, it's a big mess atm :p

He's probably spent far longer looking at his icons, as well. ;)

It could be improved, though, for sure. Maybe rather then have one big long list, sort it by studio, or something.

And rather then have boxes, maybe just a copy and paste method?

Where can we buy a "Strategy is Our Game" T-Shirt?

I am slow, i am precise, i copy section for section,
changing between the GG page and the code entry page back and forth,
i am sure i spent at least an hour on all codes to entry :p

besides that, yeah please improve it :)

Maybe we will give you a code to enter to get a special icon for those that have "spent more than 1 hour entering registration codes." :)
but we will make the code 2 to the 64 power long and make you enter only 1 character at a time and put lots of Zeros and Ohs in it that look identical
