I second this my game icons are always he launcher shortcut icon not the game exe icon.

O wow , you're right. The exes do have icons. I never even knew because the desktop launchers just have the base bland paradox icon.
Still, I think the quality of the exe icons themselves are not the best. Compare my internet found Vic 2, Prussia, Rome, DW icons to the default exe ones.

I scoured the net for a bit and was able to make my game shortcuts look *much* better.
Consider how nice the net icons look vs the CK & AoD default icons, which in turn were already alot better than the Paradox symbol icon.

Why do you have the Chi Rho symbol for Vae Victis?

Why do you have the Chi Rho symbol for Vae Victis?

A quick blurb from Wikipedia article on the Chi Rho:

"After Constantine the Chi-Rho became part of the official imperial insignia. Archaeologists have uncovered evidence demonstrating that the Chi Rho was emblazoned on the helmets of some Late Roman soldiers. Coins and medallions minted during Constantine's reign also bore the Chi Rho."

But mostly, I liked it more than any of the other ones I saw. Nice and clean.

Yeah, I usually change the icons tioo. you know you can just change it to anything you want by rightclicking and going into properties?

Yep, it's very useful. But still, not every1 does know. And vanilla designed icons, if done in high quality and detail, are just so much better than internet finds. So here's to a future of good looking PDox game icons (that aren't the generic Pdox symbol). The games deserve it!

The odd thing is, the .exe icons are usually pretty high quiclity. the red & white one for DW is great

Oh I know what it's from, it was more a historical nitpick more than anything.

lol yeah I also debated it for a bit, but then it was so much nicer and cleaner than the other ones I found. Maybe I'll go and look for another more appropriate one sometime. But I like it for now.

Guys, keep on topic!

Start a new thread if you want to discuss a particular question/answer more in depth.

Why is there no Pdox game that would solely focus on WWI?
V2 is too much about economics and V1 is horrid when it comes to battles in the late game. Plus HoI mods are just mods. :p

There is a thread in this subforum on the topic.

First I have to say I really love what you did when giving the sourcecode of some of your older games to user-developer-teams.

Have you ever thought about fully releasing your older sourcecodes?
The sources from HoI2 and EU2 probably not now but in 2-3 years or later as there are still great user-made projects (AoD, For the Glory and also Darkest Hour looks very promising) but maybe the sources from HoI1, Victoria and CK (assuming nobody is working on new games based on them).

I would gladly pay for them as I would love to implement some small changes I wanted for years now and tweak some hardcoded numbers & calculations but don't have the time to make a complete overhaul of the games like the AoD and FtG dev-teams did.

1) Who of the dev team actually works on patch 1.3 for Victoria 2?
And how intensively?

2) Does Paradox ask other studios to create sprite packs for their games, or do they ask Paradox?

No0dle

1) been anything from 2 to 6 people working on it in the last months. Currently its me, king & artfox working on it.

2) they ask us.

...Currently its me, king & artfox working on it...
You know that up until I read this quote, I thought Johan = King.
Thus the statement above boggled my mind; I reread it like 10 times in confusion.
Then I decided it was probably a joke. Because ofcourse I already knew Johan = King, so it had to be a joke.

Anyways, thankfully I remembered you guys had released some videos. Watching them cleared things up alot. My apologies if I ever responded to or pm'd either of you and you had no idea what I was talking about, because in all truth, I thought you guys were one and the same.

You can't blame me completely though. I mean, a new set of glasses + coupla days without a razor... It'd be hard to tell. :p

It always baffles me that Johan and I have the exact same glasses (at least it seems so).

But back on topic:

Have you guys ever given thought to using the Installers as the first point of contact with the game.
Make the installer and the install process the first step in the Immersion process. Draw the user into the game before he's even installed it...

I mean, all PDox titles are about immersion, and the installer has such potential in that regard.
For the best example, install a copy of Red Alert 2. It throws you into experiencing the game atmosphere right from the start.
Do try it if you haven't. It's a work of art. And I'm talking about an installer here...
Here is a video of the install process & into to the game. Watch the top right & enjoy the sounds.
