I am new to the game and I have read the FAQ, but I still do not understand something. I am currently playing Russia and if I invade another nation's province, I have horrible attrition rates. What is the deal with this?

All provinces can support a certain number of troops. If this number is passed, then attrition kicks in. The support of a province is lowered during winter, which is especially important when playing russia. Therefore all/most campaign activity should take place between march and october. Attrition is simply to high during winter.

You can see the supply limit of an enemy owned province by right clicking the province. In the top left hand corner, there will be an info screen where the supply limit is shown. For example a supply limit of 10 means that you can have 10000 troops in this province before attrition begins.

To make matters more complicated this number is the base supply limit, which can be adjusted up or down depending on several factors. Leaders will raise the limit, while for example winter will lower the limit.

There is a section in my FAQ that explains exactly how attrition is calculated. Check it out.
