One line summary of your issue
Cannot load saved games; infinite loading screens

What platform are you running the game on?

Steam

What operating system do you use?
Linux, Ubuntu 19.10
Which version of the game are you running?
1.9.0-680R
What DLC do you have installed?
Flashpoint,
Urban Warfare,
Shadowhawk Pack,
Heavy Metal

Please explain your issue is in as much detail as possible.
Game loads through the intro. At main menu, the bottom-center season pass dialog box failed to load about 19 out of 20 times today (see main menu screenshot, initial animation frame is there but doesn't advance). When this happens, no save games can be loaded; it presents an infinite loading screen (black screen screenshot). Game must be force quit at this point. Attempted file verification, client restarts, and system restarts. Game boot randomly worked once today, and gameplay was relatively normal.

Issues did not occur immediately after patching. Attempted starting a new single player skirmish game with the menu dialog frozen and it works. Just cannot load any saved games. I noted that there was a loadout error in one of my skirmish mechbay mechs that I chose to delete, but the dialog keeps returning. I have never installed or used any mods.
Have you tried verifying your files?
Yes

Steps to reproduce the issue
Open the game, observe the main menu, and attempt to load any saved game (campaign, career, or skirmish).

Attach DxDiag (PC), System Info log (Mac), or run sudo lshw -html > specs.html and uploaded specs.html (Linux)

Attach Output Log
Windows: \Users\YourUserName\AppData\LocalLow\Harebrained Schemes\BATTLETECH\output_log.txt
Mac OS: Users >{name} > Library > Logs > Unity > Player.log
Linux: ~/.config/unity3d/Harebrained Schemes/BATTLETECH/Player.log

If the game crashed, please attach the crash file with the time stamp closest to the crash.
Windows: [Steam library folder]\steamapps\common\BATTLETECH\DumpBox
For v.17 and beyond try here: C:\Users\[YourUserName]\AppData\LocalLow\Harebrained Schemes\BATTLETECH
OSX: Macintosh HD > Users > [username] > Library > Application Support > Steam > steamapps > common > BattleTech > DumpBox
Linux: [Steam library folder]/steamapps/common/BATTLETECH/DumpBox

If a save game was loaded at the start of the game session, upload it. Please make sure to upload the save game with the timestamp closest to when you loaded it.

Follow-up: As silly as it might sound, I think the problem is (at least linked to) the recurring issue in the skirmish mechbay. Every time I open the single player skirmish after I close the client, it comes up with the error (it was an Urbie that exceeded max JJs for some reason?). But when I choose "Delete" and immediately restart, it usually works. Every time I close the client, though, the issue returns.

I can upload a screenshot of this if those in charge are still stumped.

I am having the same issue, and I am not doing of the things you are speaking to here. Game comes to the main menu after the opening cinematic just fine... all I do is try to "continue" with my career mode and roughly 80% of the time it's going into the same crash situation you are reporting.

Indeed, and the previous scenario looked to be a false positive on my end today. Today it worked after watching the entire intro. No rhyme or reason.

Doesn't look like we're the only ones, hopefully it will be addressed soon.

I am having the same issue. I am getting the same 2 screens as the 2 screenshots in the first post of this thread. I am playing the same campaign that I've been playing since this game was released. But update 1.9 broke my game and game saves. For a while (after updating to version 1.9), if the game got stuck on an infinite loading save file screen, I could just quit the game (initially, it would either take a long time to actually quit to desktop or I would have to use Task Manager to end the BattleTech app), and then run the game again until the game did load my saved game. But now the DLC mini-window no longer pops up in the lower central area of the main menu screen, and I can no longer load any of my saved games (because the game now always gets stuck on the loading save file screen indefinitely), and when I tried to quit the game, the game hard crashed my computer (requiring me to reboot my computer). On previous occasions that the game hung and refused to quit to desktop, I could just use Task Manager to end (task) the BattleTech app (which sometimes had the number 2 alongside it) listed in Task Manager. Version 1.8 of this game worked perfectly.

I am using Windows 10 Pro and the Steam version of the game with all of the DLC installed, and I have never modded my game using any of the third party mods available for this game (i.e. I've always been playing the vanilla game). I verified the integrity of the game files and all of my Steam files validated successfully.

I can provide any files if requested by the developer.

Were these saved games from 1.8.1 or new under 1.9 ?

The OP has Linux, do the others here also?

I am in the exact same configuration here. All DLC, everything worked just fine before 1.8... I've never installed a MOD.

My campaign saved games originate from the release version of this game (presumably version 1.0). I was playing version 1.8.1 before the game updated to version 1.9. I am using Windows 10 Pro. I only started having problems with loading my saved games (and quitting the game) after the game updated to version 1.9

hmm, it turns out that I had 987 game save files in my saved game directory. I deleted all but 9 of my game saves, and now my game works perfectly, so it seems that this issue is caused by having too many game saves in the game save folder.

Do any of you other chaps who are experiencing this issue also have lots of game saves?

The game saves are located in the following path for the Steam version of the game:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\{user's Steam ID number?}\637090\remote\C0\SGS1

attached below is my output log (when I experienced the issue)

I only had around 500 saves in my folder, I did a clean-up and it didn't change anything.

Try reverting to 1.8.1 in the Steam Betas tab for th egame. Can you then continue these sabes that were started under that version or earlier?

In general it is recommended to finish a campaign under the same version you started it with - save game compatibility across major version changes is rarely perfect in any game!

Is this code for: "We should not expect any additional bug fixes?" I understand that content delivery is done, can you please comment on continued maintance? Should we expect a "dot' release of 1.9.x?

I don't understand how you read that from what I wrote. I was just saying that after a major patch for any game you can expect some save game compatibility issues, of varying degrees. So my perennial advice is to finish campaigns under the game version they were started from.

I myself have no idea of the plans for future patches, being an external contractor I'm not in that loop.

I am having this exact problem and I see no viable ways around it. At least my 3 most recent save files don't load. I can play a skirmish game and I can seemingly save it, but the campaign is dead, and so is my enthusiasm.

The endless spinning "loading icon thingie" never results in a game crash on my machine, but it also never loads the game. I have to kill battletech in Task Manager in order to restart it. I'm okay with no new content coming in, but I'm VERY displeased that this game does this, virtually making my current campaign dead and useless. And I had some good stuff going in that game, too. It was better than most anything available on television. Until the game stopped loading my saves.

This thread is mostly about save game incompatibility between the 1.8.x and 1.9.x patches. Is that really what you are seeing, at this late date?

Either way though, Please attach this log file here:
~/.config/unity3d/Harebrained Schemes/BATTLETECH/Player.log

Also in Steam please click on Steam-Help-System Info, and paste everything there into a text file and attach that here.
