Steps to reproduce the issue
Launch from Steam. User not logged in. Attempt to login and get message, "Error - unable to establish CommStar connection.". Password and account name verified by logging into Paradox account.

Attach DxDiag (PC), System Info log (Mac), or run sudo lshw -html > specs.html and uploaded specs.html (Linux)

+1, replying for exposure. Playing SP for me in the past while not logged in has at best resulted in files that exist temporarily disappearing and some files just plain being eaten, so I won't play while not logged in.
 
There was a major Amazon outage yesterday that affected many games in various ways. It is fully fixed now I believe , are you all still seeing this?
 
Well... still having the same issue since lodging the bug report. Seems to be the same issue that occurred May 15 2018. The problem was with Harebrained Schemes authentication I believe. Pretty annoying, wanting to battle some mates after a hard days work. Ahh there's always tomorrow...
 
I've been having this problem for few days now and I've tried everything including a fresh wipe and install (completely removed every trace of the game). Sign ins work on the Paradox websites (obviously) and other Paradox games sign in fine too. I play through GoG and have tried this with and without mods. Given the unpredictable nature of files when you're not signed in I'm very reluctant to play. My account name and default picture comes up in-game at the main menu under account management, but the red dot indicating no connection to the servers is constant.

Getting pretty frustrated at this point with the lack of communication. Don't care who's fault it is or what happened, but the fact ALL of the powers that be are silent on the issue is no bueno.
