I'm currently somewhat over 100 sol and built my first megadome specialized mostly for farming. I connected it with two residental basic domes with archologies and education/child residental/comfort buildings.... and suddenly childbirths hit the sky. I had around 50 free residental slot, but now I had to build 2 apartment buildings and have need to build next dome to house all these new children. I so do NOT look forwardfor a deathwave once all this children go seniors.

So, the question is: do you try to maintain a steady population growth and how ? If no, how do you deal with it ?

I had this happen at a pretty early stage recently. While reducing comfort or creating gender segregation are options, I found the simple expedient of disallowing births in certain domes but not others gave me great control over population growth. Turn one on when it seems low, turn one off when it seems high, etc. Be conservative or you won't get enough births to replace dying seniors.

By this point in my game - Sol 80 or so - I had five domes in total. If you have less you'll get less fine control, but in the long term it should work out well enough.

Disallowing births is the easiest solution, but closing comfort buildings let you save manpower and resources ;).

Oh well that's a fair point.

Which option you pick depends on your resource situation. If you're in a good enough spot that you can keep comfort high to get the most productivity possible, forbid births in certain domes. If you're in a spot where you really need the manpower or resources instead, switch off comfort buildings and take a moment to ask yourself if you expanded too quickly or failed to grab a good resource deposit.

Part of Morale comes from comfort is what I meant. High comfort, health, and sanity give 5 morale each, so if you can keep comfort over a certain value it ends up boosting morale and productivity.

Control birthrates without forbidding them and deal with dead. Use these two mods:
