Let's continue the scenario: Austria annexes Hungary diplomatically. What is the status of Moldavia now?
As far as I know, Moldavia is released from its status- unless Austria decides to get Moldavia as Vassal .

But AFAIK Austria will not have the option to decide. Moldavia will simply be free again.

In the example discussed when I played... Hungary kept Moldavia as a vassal-state when she was vassalized by Austria.
I could not decide if I liked it or not so I did not comment it to Johan. I mean it goes perfectly with the Medieval notion of vassalage, but EU vassalage covers a more modern phenomena. Perhaps 'Satellite' is better than 'Vassal', but it was an old boardgame concept so it survived somehow...

It doesn't matter if you're a vassal. You can still get vassals. They will become vassals to you only, and not to the state you're a vassal to.

if you vassalise a country with a vassal it keeps its vassal
you would benefit from a vassal's vassal - since you get income from a vassal presumably some of that comes from the vassal's vassal . . .

Play the new patch once and you will see this often enough (I saw about five countries, who are vassals and were diplomatically annexed)...
