I'm on the other side of food chain from the library ;), Vladimir and Borealis and Greven are the ones who dig up the sources and Juic and Sardagon help them with parts of character research (mostly online). For CoA however I can recall what I've bought @ Charing Cross after ECTS: we have Bout.'s Heraldry from 1970, Manual of Heraldry from 1927 and Decorative Heraldry from 1897, then 2 books about Black Death and Oxford's Crusades and Zoe's Crusades (the big one) plus a funny little thing called "CoAs of Maltese Families" (bought for bargain price while diving @ Malta :). When we put up the "normal" site for the game, we have a plan to publish a list of sources so that whoever's interested can look things up.

But I haven't considered applying, since I am pretty certain that there is a 'minimum time you can spend on the game per day or week' clause somewhere in the agreement :p

Of course, if a few paltry hours per week would be enough I would apply, what with encouragment like this  :D

FYI: The only actual agreement you sign as a beta tester is the non-disclosure agreement. You aren't contractually bound to test a certain amount of time per week. Unfortunately, there are beta testers who download the game once or twice, play it a bit, and are never heard from again.

That being said however, in my own humble opinion it would be better if people refrained from applying to beta test if they didn't have enough time to make any significant contributions. During actual development there tends to be a patch every few days, and some of the testing I've done on single patchs can take several hours.

And that's quite the encouragement, by the way.

Sergei,

I hope that the situation in Sicily is adequately represented in 1066. Arguably, it is probably the most difficult area of the map to actually model properly. I.E, how can you account for the fact that the saracen dominated parts of Sicily were (after being conquered) more tranquil and profitable then the Norman possessions in Apulia, which even though it was thoroughly subverted by Norman customs and feudalism, was a hotbed of rebellion. The fact that the Norman rulers of Sicily could draw upon such large amounts of muslim manpower for their armies enabled them to defy the Pope as no other fellow ruler could. It is too bad that the dynasty died out due to a unwise monarch and the Germans took over.

Indeed - the Normans are probably going to be the most difficult Christian poer to model. For another example, how will the Norman ownership of England work, while being technically vassals of the French crown?

Thanks, maybe I will then, since I won't get less time as time goes by, only more, and I have the three secret benefits

Attentiveness
Cable
Eloquence
Knowledge

er, make that four..
