Can leader traits be restored to saved games?

The title pretty much explains my question... Playing England, quite disappointed to have the game crash (my mistake, hitting the history button on a grant of free warships, oops...) in 1562 -- now I have 40 years without Elizabeth's benefits to look forward to. Is there any way to edit the game files to restore a leader's traits to an ongoing game?

Thanks in advance for any tips.
