cannot lay siege-please help

I have noticed that i can only lay siege to a city if there are troops to defeat in the province first.
If there are no troops and i have an army larger than the defending garrison then i should be able to lay siege-but cant.This especially seems to happen when i attack granadas capital using my spanish army.
Does annyone know what im doing wrong-thanks.

When you send troops of sufficient size into an enemy-controlled province, they should start laying siege automatically. Are you sure you have enough troops to besiege and is this only a problem in a specific province or in all of them?

Ive definately got enough troops.I dont know if its specific to granada or not

Does the unit have a cannon on the main map screen when it's in the hostile province?

Sieges take a while to do anything, it may be some weeks before you hear the cannon sound that the siege is taking place.

If not, send every unit you have there just as a test.

Not in sieging, just during assaults.
