The others here are getting the right checksum, so you are having a different problem. You need to do a clean reinstall including deleting old files, as per post #3 above.

Okay.

After another reinstall, I'm now getting the correct checksum, but the game still either hangs on "creating checksum" while loading or freezes when the single player button is pressed.

Can EVERYONE still having the hanging/crashing problem that's new with 1.04 please post their dxdiag.txt files - only from the start of the file down to the end of the "Sound devices" section is necessary, for brevity's sake. Thank you.

Well I got my game to work again last night after multiple "program not responding" glitches, and re-tries.
I got to thinking that often drivers may cause such issues, so checked if there was a more recent driver for my NVidia video card. The previous wasn't all that old (oct 2011) but there was a newer one dated February 2012 on Nvidia's website (even though Microsoft Update for windows 7 said my october driver was up to date). So I updated that driver... First attempt at starting up the game resulted it hanging up when "creating checksum". I closed out the program, rebooted and tried again. Then I got to the menu page, and successfully started a new game. Now I need to try to load my saved games from the previous version.

Edit: I got it working with the old saved games. However the first attemt at running the game, stopped responding at "creating checksum"... Again. So I shut down the program and tried again. Second attempt worked fine, straight through to playing a v1.03 saved game.

Done, now it only crashes intermittently when I try and start a game. First time went fine, started game, started play, ran for ~20 years. I then exited to try again, crashed on startup. Next try went fine again.

I'd like you to try turning off your sound completely. While CKII is NOT running, open your settings.txt file (My Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II\settings.txt) and change the master volume line to this

master_volume=0

Save the file and restart CKII.
