ho, everbody!!
i got a 'little' problem here... <like you haven't thought that> ;)

i installed the game (german version 1.00) and was playing a while - when i remembered the patches... so i downloaded the german 1.05 patch - and what a bad surprise!!!! i klicked on the install-icon and it first seemed to run properly but after seconds the installer told me that i should install the game first, because it could not find it!!! but i already played it!! than i started the game once more and hit alt+tab to get back to the desktop and tried once more to run the installer: now it nearly installed the whole patch, but at - lets say 85% - the same massage appeared and installation was aborded... damn!! :(
so whats wrong????

thanks for future help :)

Uninstall the game - saving your saved games elsewhere first - defrag your hard disk, then install the game then 1.05 immediately.

Just confirm for us the name of the publisher on the box, and that the patch matches that. Thx.

can't fix it

i tried everything you told me... still the same problem

publisher on the box? you mean ubi soft?? (it's the german version 1.00 for sure)

i don't think its my computer:
amd xp 1700+
256 mb ddr-ram
via kt 266a chipset
leadtek geforce 4 4200 ti
soundblaster audigy player
win 98 se

...

i don't get it!!! a minute ago i tried to get the patch from 1.00 to 1.02 installed and afterwards the 1.00 to 1.03 - both with the same massage: GAME NOT INSTALLED.
so the problem seems to be right at the installation. could that be?
interesting to me is also that when i try to play and choose the grand campaign i can't right click on the shields to play an other nation...
HELP!!!!!!!! i wanna play :D

once more - getting closer

now i'm really confused
i started the game (though the patchinstaller sais its not installed :p ) and watched the intro AND what surprice: it's english spoken. the game menu is german, the countries on the map are in english and the rest is german... so whats happening here to me??? :(

translations only affect the content of the text.csv file. Not the intro, not the map, but only the text (if you click on one province for example, it will give you the name of the province, this one will be in German (or Swedish :) ).

if you try the patch 1.01, does it work?

I just spent some time looking for the old 1.01 German patch but couldn't locate it...hopefully Viper will still have a link on file somewhere.

In the meantime:

(1) Did you download the 1.05 patch from Ubi or from Paradox Plaza? It shouldn't make a difference but it would be worth checking.

(2) In your previous post (where you comment on English province names and intro) you didn't mention whether the game itself was playing correctly. Could you let me know what version number appears when you first start the game? Does it still say 1.00 or does it say 1.05?

(3) Since you've done a few install/uninstalls recently to try to get this to work, have you been doing the complete uninstall procedure each time? Just thinking that there might be little bits of previous installs still floating around on your hard drive somewhere (particularly in the registry or temp folder).

(4) Could you also confirm that you're using the default path for your install.

(5) Are any of the files being installed? For example, is the readme.txt file now showing the list of patch fixes from 1.01 through 1.05?

I'll see if I can find out anything else that might be at fault.

first, you are talking about the German version from UBI Soft. Now that it is confirmed that the publisher is UBI Soft, the patch you need is the German 1.05. There is no such thing as the 1.01 or 1.02 German patch, all UBI Soft versions came at 1.04.

Follow Mr T's advice about the uninstall, grab this patch:
http://www.paradoxplaza.com/files/patches/EU2_German_1.05_Update.exe

if it doesn't work at all, try to reduce the cache of your cd-rom:
Control Panel, System, Performance, File system, CD-ROM, set it to "no-read ahead" and move the slider to the extreme left.

confused - but happy

ho my friends!!
what can i say? today gave it one more try and installed it again (also i wanted to see why i saw version 1.00 while you told me it has to be 1.04 - because of ubi-) and what a surprise!!!! i chose this time the standard installation (not as i always do the user one), next step the default location and watched the installation. i had right from the beginning the feeling, that something is not like before... and right!!! the intro was in german!!! and you were right: NOW it is 1.04!!! (not when i use the user-installation (strange - isn't it?!?!? )
i once more used the patchfile and - IT WORKED properly!!!!!! :D great!!! can't believe it!

so a BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU - i really appreciate

-now i have to play  -

yours happy v. Stoexen

Very interesting...and it's great that you're abe to play now. I think I'll add that to the FAQ since it might be that some publishers only "tweak" the default installation and for some reason this creates a problem with the "custom" install option.

Thanks for letting us know. :)
