Installing EU II on my new win xp computer, I get the following error message:

An installation support file
'C:\docume~1\user~1\locals~1\temp\{CA5DD6E1-B508-4922-815D-479E3228B17A}\SETUP.INX'
Could not be installed.

Data Error (cyclic redundancy check).

Please help me.

That's an odd message. I don't suppose that you accidentally clicked "install" twice when you did the install?

If not then the most probably it was a slight glitch with the installation and the most likely fix will be one of two things...except that I need a little more info before I can tell which will work.

Can you give me a little more detailed description as to what (if anything) happened after you started the install. Did the message pop up immediately, or did it seem to go through part of the process and then give the message, or did it seem to complete the installation and then give the error message?

What publisher version of EU2 do you have (Strategy First/UBI/Vision/etc.)?

Please check to see if any of the files/folders were created at all. Depending on the version that would mean that there's a folder with some files in it in either C:\Program Files\Paradox Entertainment\Europa Universalis 2\ or in C:\Program Files\Strategy First\Europa Universalis 2\

If you go to Start-->Control Panel-->Add/Remove Programs do you see a listing for EU2?

Let me know and I'll give you the most likely fix.

Isn't that the problem fixed by the little update from SF? I've forgotten exactly what it is, I hope you know what I mean.

Thanks Andrew. :) Yep...I'm guessing that he has the Vision Park version (location: Denmark) so if the initial CD install worked but the patch didn't then the it's probably the "Scandinavian 1.05 Patch Issue".

BzAli: if you were able to install the game correctly but you can't apply the 1.05 patch, go to this post and scroll down to the section that says "Scandinavian Patch Issue" and follow Patric's instructions there.

If the original install didn't work then I have a couple other thoughts but I'll save that until I find out more about his system.

Scandinavian patch installation problem

FIX 1: originally posted by Patric
Scandinavian EU2 installation problem (setup.inx)

This is a compatibility issue with some CD readers and the copy protection.

You can download a working file here:
http://www.paradoxplaza.com/files/patches/setup_inx.zip

Try to copy the whole installation to the hd and install from there. Put the downloaded setup.inx in the same folder and off you go. I just tested it and it works like a charm.

Don't copy the *.vpp files though

If you choose to make a custom installation and play music from the CD you will have to edit the music.ini file after installation. Just change as follows:

####My installation####

[Common]
music=c:\Program Files\Europa Universalis 2\MUSIC

####Change to####

[Common]
music=X:\MUSIC

Where X is the drive letter for your CD rom drive. After that you can delete all the installation files you copied manually from the CD.
