Starting up the .exe, directly or by way of loader, game goes into black screen and stays there. :(

Tried running as administrator, gave it firewall rights, tried compatibility mode... nothing made a difference. Any ideas lads?

Have you tried adjusting the resolution to the native one of your monitor? Either launch Arsenal.exe or go to settings.cfg and edit these two lines:
Code:
1920 #Width
1080 #Height

Try to reinstall and then run it from the arsenal.exe
Tried it, again nothing :(

Do you mean that your file says:

1920 #Width
1080 #Height

Does your monitor support that resolution? You might want to change that to something lower if you are not sure about it
Nay, it says 1366 x 768. Tried a lower setting too (using the laucher). No effect.

My best guess was that it was something related with the starting video, but one atempt actually seemed to boot it, only for the AoD program itself to freeze.

Then simply try renaming the "avi" directory to something like "avi_old": no more intro video. See if this helps.

Tried it, did nothing.

However, I later tried to make another change (giving all of the folder "trusted status" on the firewall) and when I tried loading the game...
...problem remained. Only instead of rebooting I just left it there, "frozen". When I came back the firewall was asking if it should allow for Blink to run. I said yes and the game loaded. :)

Now I tried loading again, and it shows the opening screen, "loading sound" appears, but then the game minimizes and freezes. :(

edit: oh wait, it didn't freeze, it loaded, but it keeps minimizing every time I click it on the taskbar :( :(

Tried to uninstall AoD and to reinstall it outside c:\program files ?
Please specify the computer system you have and the distributor you got AoD from. There are lots of complaints from Steam users with the 1.05 version not really working. What's the hyperactive Firewall you use ?

Also check when you launch the game via "Arsenal.exe" that the box named "Windowed Mode" is unchecked.

I'm getting this same problem, tried all the solutions mentioned in the thread, and nothing. I'm running XP on a netbook under native 1024x600 resolution. Forcing resoution, either on the games end or the systems end does not work. I try to start the game and the screen goes black for a few seconds and then a windows message pops up saying the program needs to terminate.

I have run HoI2 Doomsday/Armageddon on this machine before, so I'd be surprised if it were the hardware.

Retail/gamersgate/Steam/other distri ?
Please rename the avi folder inside your AoD folder to avix. Start the game via aodgame.exe. I don't know if 1024x600 is a supported resolution

Gamersgate. I've already renamed the folder to avi_old and started straight from the .exe file. No effect. I've also repeated this process both on the unpatched version and 1.07.
