I had a computer issue a few days ago. I wasn't able to restart HOI2 so I decided to uninstall and reinstall from CD. I successfully uninstalled but now I'm getting a message, when I try to install from CD that I need to use Control Panel to complete the installation. I go to control panel and, sure enough, HOI2 is still listed in programs. I try to uninstall from Control Panel and get this message:

Component: Core files
File group:
File:
Error: Catastrophic Failures

Try this: Create an EMPTY directory (of the correct name) where HOI-2 is intended to install, and then use the "Repair" option instead of a fresh install.

I got the program to install, but now when I try to run it I get this message:

Critical error!

---excel file not found
---

Do you still want to continue?

If I click on "Ignore" I get this message:

Please install the latest milestone.

I tried manually uninstalling HOI2 as per the instructions in the thread "Manually Uninstall HOI2". I then reinstalled from CD and I'm still getting the same error as in my previous message. If I click on "Retry," Windows pops an unhandled exception error.

Try sending a PM to coreymas, appealing for help. He's one of our best "problem-solvers".

Okay I am here.

Here is what I need to know.

What OS do you have?

Where is the game installed currently -- give me the path

What versions of HOI2 do you actually have?

Well, the problem seems to have resolved itself.

For future reference, however, I'm using Windows XP Pro, with the latest security patches.

I have both HOI2 and HOI Doomsday.

The path is e:\program files\paradox (I'm using an external hard drive).
