I'm not sure how many of you play paper and pencil RPG's but it seems to me that the map and all the work that is going into detailing of the period will make the perfect "world" for an RPG campaign setting.

All publishers of RPG material try to create medieval type worlds by often fail when it comes to creating viable political and economic models. Largely this does not matter because players just want to hack and slash anyway.

But for those who are looking for more in depth play CK, with some imagination, will be the perfect vehicle.

Once this work is done Sergei et al. should look into the RPG publishing market.

Actually, I found the D&D worlds of the "Forgotten Realms" and "Greyhawk" to contain much potential for politics. I like to play pen&paper games, although I don't have many friends to play with. So, who's in for an CK RPG in the way of the good ol' EU RPG?

My older brother and all his stoner friends had a GURPS (Generic Univerisal Role Playing System) group and they played a long time, then when my friends and I tried..well..we didn't do as well..and there wern't as many of us..maybe we didn't smoke enough..heh. But i'd say FR would be best..but if you want true to life..

But the things those products were missing was the medieval vassal system. FR and Greyhawk are really a bunch of nation sates with modern day economies dressed up with Kings and Princes.

It would be much better to start with a good detailed source like CK and then modify it to your liking to bring it into the Fantasy realm by making whatever modifications you wish.

Anyway this is probably going way off topic and so, hearing Havard's gentle footsteps, I will stop.

Well, if we are so off-topic, why not push it further? Anyone here who has programming experience? I wondered how you would program such a playboard as you have in EU and CK. You click at one point inside a certain boundary and whups, you have selected Kleves. That's so cool. But I have no idea how to do that. Anyone does (maybe even the programmers? - "THE GODS ARE SPEAKING") *g*

A CK Rpg... itmight work! :)

If I remember correctly, part of the initial drive and background for this game came from a pen and pencil rpg, Pendragon. A game based around Arthurian Knights, with a very in depth political/economical model. Where things like romance were just as important as trying to attend the upcoming tourney and being well-looking for the part, not to mention generating an heir (legitimate or illigitimate... oh what webs love and genetics weave). I definitely think this game will have a rather noticable rpg feel to it.

Well, you always had old Forgotten realms: Birthright, didn't get more political than that.

And the best part is that it won't have all that bullshit magic to contend with. :)

I just remebered back when I played AD&D in 'ye olde days'

I always buggered my DM with:

hey I'm a 9th level fighter..lemme build a castle! and then I'll hire an rmy and get married and conquer land and increase farmers productivity and...

and I bascly lost interst in crawling around in ancient tombs and instead wanted some sort of political roleplay instead, Myabe CK will actually fullfill that dream somewhat?

would be great!:)

I would think that only only a portion of the map be utilized though; thus more of a centralized campaign. For example a Western Europe or Northern Europe or Iberia or....

If one tried to use all the families available, then they would inevitably wind up so scattered across Europe and unable to interact with each other.

Pendragon had a very minimal magic system, when I used to play it way back it might come up every once in a great while. It was mostly Druidic magic that was based more on ceremonies and such to boost crop productivity and such. One could make a talisman or two for instant effects, but they just simply took a long time to make. Only magic people we ever encountered were NPC's, all players were knights.

But I agree, I love the idea of medieval rpg without magic at all. Also, the whole relationships with other families, building your dynasty, just smells of role-playing to me. MP in CK sounds like its gonna kick arse, especially if you get some really good players together. :)

Point taken. :) But then, it was only very slightly off topic.. it was comparitive you see.... :D

Hmm.. I was interested in a CKRPG..from day one..if someone remember..:)

I'll keep an eye open, maybe CK will be the thing that gets me back in to the rpg world after a good few years out of it. :p

Anyway, hopefully it will be just another great facet of this wonderful gem it appears we have coming our way.

I really hope that what we can do to effect our heirs stats will be cool. I mean, the ruler stats should come to play alot more here then in the EU/EU2 games.

Ever heard of the RPG "Harnmaster" from Columbia Games?

I have never seen (and I have played many RPG systems) such a "realistic" fantasy world like Harnmaster. Low magic, few gold, few monster but many politics, vasalls, family relations, civil wars, realistic armors etc.:
Extremly detailed with a sound understanding of medieval history.

But playing a historical game like CrusKings with all its nicely features seems to be even more attracting to me. :)

Yep, I once had all the Harn material. It had a great system for manorial estate economics. Harn was good at the gritty details but what it lacked was a good overview of how everthing fit together. That is exactly what CK will provide.

Sounds like one of my own dreams.

Totally like me.

I had high hopes for Birthright, but it never managed to live up to what I wanted from it.

A game that can capture the fun RPG element of a good old D&D session and add some strategy, too, that's a product I will buy.

Badlurs gate series almost made me have the same feeling as the old days but it just needed that social feel...

*having high hopes for CK* :)
