I am on a used factory reset laptop that I bought recently. I installed ck2 and was playing an Ireland game up until yesterday with 0 issues. Today I spent some time messing around with the nexus and installing skyrim mods and in the process installed vortex (a mod loader) and also something to do with amd radeon to allow me to have better control over my games. After all of this, I tried to launch ck2 and received this screen.

after this I spent several hours trouble shooting, updating drivers, re downloading directx9, completely uninstalling all and any ck2 related files and doing a clean reinstall to no avail. After several hours of the same error message I received this one instead.

This error only appeared once and then we went back to the previous error message.

I would really love to be able to play ck2 again, given I have over 800 hours in it and love the game to bits,
any help at all would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK2
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK2 AND Documents/Paradox/CK2 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add ck2game.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK2 or Documents CK2 locations, before installing again.

IF NEITHER OF THOSE HELP:
DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/CK2/settings.txt.
From your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ folder, attach system.log .

I have some idea of a potential issue. I am having trouble running a game called rimworld as well, and is seems that game is being confused by the fact that I have 2 graphics cards

Sounds suspicious..
"Something to do with AMD Radeon" LOL

It appears to only use the Intel HD 4600 and its driver.

I found the AMD Radeon HD 8790M only mentioned in the SystemDevices section of the dxdiag.
Is the driver installled and the GPU not disabled ?

Besides, i suppose tech support wouldnt mind to know if you made a clear un- and reinstall exactly as described above
and if you added ck2game.exe as exception to your AV and in case of Defender also in the Ransomware section of it.

Either way, i'm out again and leave this to support. Good luck.
