Heyo, I'm trying to convert my CK3 save into EU4- there's a couple of new empire titles that formed (including my own) that I figure I should mention, because, for some reason, large portions of the map seem to become uncolonized post conversion including the entirety of my empire which was based in Northern Africa. I find this strange because even in vanilla EU4 Tunis and other nation exist, yet post-conversion there simply is not a nation there. I have tried updating both EU4 and CK3, reinstalling the converter to the newest version, and tried a variety of different settings. The log.txt file is attached below. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and if I can provide any more information please let me know!

Hmm. Try without shattering empires. Also upload that save so I can try to replicate and figure out what's wrong.

So unfortunately I can't link the save file from what I can see because the savegame folder in the Eu4 documents folder simply... does not exist. I just reinstalled Eu4 so I've no savegames yet, and the game crashes when I try to select one of the nations that did convert. I'll attached the mod file, eu4 log, and a screenshot

edit: can't add the .mod file ._.

You were supposed to upload the ck3 save. The one you tried to convert, so I can try to reproduce your issues...
Try to find it if you can.

Will the converter ever be compatible with AEP (Asia Expanded Project)? If not, is there any way I can help you map the provinces to expand the compatibility?
I personally do not play CK3 and have no interest in expanding any mod compatibility - and subsequently no plans to do so. However outside collaborators have since expanded support for a wide array of mods, so if you or someone wants to not only produce a compatch but *maintain* that compatibility for a long foreseeable future, then yes - we can include the support.

Mapping provinces is tedious but you (mostly) do it only once, unless the mod keeps fiddling with the map. You'd also have to map cultures, religions, traditions/heritages and update all the relevant files in configurables/ folder.

If you're interested in doing so, then we can talk shop.

Maybe I'm just an idiot but it doesn't appear I can drop the savegame file here or post a link to my google drive for you to download it. Is there a way to contact or DM you? I literally created this Forum Account to ask for help so I'm genuinely clueless on how this site works, sadly. Thank you for bearing with me, I apologize for my cluelessness

There is an Attach files button.

Hello! Loving the converter so much, thank you for developing it!

I do have a question on how to configure a few things:

1. How to add what cultures "view," or "know" map wise? Or is it directly tied to what the default is in EU4 (we're playing a shattered chaotic game, where there's cultures and religions everywhere).
2. Some nations spawn with national ideas tied to what their culture traditions are, some get "german duke" ones or "british" ones. Where can I find how it converts and how can I change it so that all nations created from CK3 follow the traditions from their cultures.

Thank you for all the help!

You mean map vision? I'll have to let someone else answer this more definitively, but iirc I thought we just made all CK3 lands visible to these tech groups:
Code:
{"western", "eastern", "ottoman", "muslim", "indian", "east_african", "nomad_group", "sub_saharan"}
And it is determined by tech group in history/provinces iirc. "discovered_by = tech_groups"

Right now you can't. It only applies to dynamic(diverged and merged) cultures. That particular feature was my first return to coding anything in a long while before that. As a consequence, it's just bolted on to the existing mapping system. It would take some code adjustment to make an option to suppress the mapped ideas and use tradition generated ones for everyone.

Reactions:
Ah, so it's tech group related. So if I have a player that's playing the Yughur group, which I think is some nomadic group, I just add them somewhere to the configurations for them to have maps?

And thanks for that! I'll then give a suggestion everyone diverges or hyberdizes with some group! Thanks for the heads up! :D

As is, since the vision is hardcoded per province, the only solution purely using the configuration files is to go to the culture mapping where Yughur maps to Oirat and switch their tech group from Chinese to Nomad.

Note that will sometimes be insufficient. These dynamic ideas are assigned by culture and the ones which are assigned by tag have precedence. If your tag is FRA, you'll get French ideas. Several ways to get around that, one is to delete or amend French ideas in the resulting mod, such that it is not assigned to whichever tags you want to have culture based ideas.

Is the 0.13 Melian release compatible with the 1.9 pilgrimages doctrine addition as well as the doctrine for witchcraft as a virtue?
Most doctrines carry no value. I don't see what, in EU4 terms, would "pilgrimage doctrine" be.
Feel free to edit CK3ToEU4/configurables/religions/dynamic/doctrine_definitions.txt and add something to doctrine_pilgrimage_encouraged/doctrine_pilgrimage_mandatory. Ditto for witchcraft.

Is it possible to have divergent cultures in the same culture group as the original culture? For example my kingdom's culture is pictish and has 4 different divergent cultures, however they all appear in the british culture group instead of celtic when the game conversion happens.

Custom cultures get culture groups assigned by configurables/heritage_map.txt. CK3 gives picts heritage_brythonic which maps to brittish, instead of giving them heritage_goidelic which we map to celtic and which would be more accurate. No idea why. Feel free to remap it yourself.
