Hello fellow forum members!!!
I am anxiously awaiting for this game to hit my door after 10 days since dispatch (try to keep myself busy with Combat Mission on the mean time).

I have one question regarding the combat phase in the game.

Is this a kind of predefined math calculations that would more or less come out with the same result time after time or there is anything that the human player can do while in battle to afect the outcome of the conflict?

With this I mean, are there any options about formations or tactics or even taking advantage of the terrain to influence the way your troops behave during battle?
I am not expecting a game a la Cossacks, but just wondering...

Nope, battle is for generals. Your job is to provide enough troops for your generals and leave the battle to them. No formations, no tactics, no nothing expect giving your army march commands and order to assault during seiges.

Same applies for navies. Fighting is completely left for generals.

Er... Hitler might have disagreed, but then we know how that turned out.

Combat is from the prespective of a monarch - you supply the troops and infrastructure, then revel in the victories of your generals or cringe at their incompetence.

And, often, curse Fortune. Louis XIV, one of our real-life EU predecessors, perhaps expressed it best in 1709, when he learned of the French defeat at Malplaquet:

"Has God forgotten all I have done for him?"
