Now I've gone and confused myself.

Can you draw supply from an allied province?
In war time of course.

If the provincial supply limits determine how
many men you can park in one of your own
provinces, what about an allied or enemy
province?

Can I have as large an army as I please
roaming around allied or enemy provinces,
reguardless of their supply limit as long
as I have a supply line back to one of
MY provinces?

The reason I'm asking is this. It seems
the expedtionary force I sent to help my
ally Sweden was fine, suffering no attrition
while on swedish soil until the Baltic freezes
over. Or is this just telling me it's winter
and your troops are gonna suffer no matter what?

Dude, I've long since downloaded your faq and made it
into a table cloth for my dining room table so I could
study it while I eat. Those are the things I didn't
understand but I think I just found the clue I was
looking for in the manual. My bad.

Attrition is always determined by the province
your sitting in as per the table in your faq.
The lack of a valid supply line just increases
attrition 30%. Therefore when English troops
are sitting in allied Swedish Finland, ice
floes in the Baltic have no effect on supply
since the supply is actually being drawn from
allied Swedish Finland.

Does that sound right?

Actually the max attrition gets raised by 10% (which early in the game usually means from max 10 to max 20% if no other penalties for winter or terrain applies)

Yep =)
