Does anyone know if battles will be like in EU?

Properbly too late, but....
could battles be implemented somewhat like those in 'Empire in Arms', with attcker and defender choosing tactics.

This is of course tough to mix with running time, since the game would have to pause with every battle, to allow the players to choose tactics, a mess in MP.

Of course you could assign armies with battles orders in advance, but this would somehow be against the idea of actually choosing different tactics for different encounters.

Still it would be nice if your all-cav-army applied different tactics thab your huge -composite-home army

Well just some thoughts :)

(Primary question still stands :) )

AFAIK the battles will be pretty much like EUII. Or does anybody know more?

Well I would hope the interface would be a little nicer than EU2, but I definately would NOT like to see tactics.

IMHO tactics would be even less valid in CK than they could have been in EU.

In EU you had local commanders running the show, but at least they were hired by the country and could be assumed to have some basic obedience in most cases.

In CK it will be lots of commanders if you join a largish battle, since every army will have it's own boss, with it's own ideas of when to join the fight, when to hold back and when to retreat.

Yeah, immagine all those vassals/allies/neighbours... that show up at the battlefield and as soon as things go wrong flee, switch sides, ignore orders...:D

well, the map should prevent him from doing a world conquest....;)

EDIT: fixed spelling

But if he manages a 'map conquest', imagine the setup for WC in 1453 when you convert the savegame to EU2. *shudder*

"The Eurasian Empire and the age of colonization". Would be cool to have every nation's events happening there. Hey, just kidding.

Well it would be fun to see once, but then everybody would toss it out ASAP.

A choice of strategy hmm, care to enlighten us with a bit more detail :) . I've been reading this forum for nearly a month and i have to say that i feel this is going to be one of the best games ever (better than EU & EU2 if possible:D )

Seeing the smilie he's teasing us...;)

A choice of strategy does sound EIA like.

I can't see flank marches being all that common but easily bring in
Defend, Charge, Skirmish, ... which will interact with terrain. Defend in wooded area against French knights say. Or on top of a hill with a shield wall.

A strategic option was used for "Hannibal" from memory with an ability to withdraw if you're getting your tail spanked. Don't know taht it actually worked well in 'real time'

No tactics but... a choice of strategy for the exact battle maybe?

:D

Well I guess strategy is what I meant, i never seem to get the military terms right:rolleyes:

So strategy is large scale "plan", whereas
tactics is on unit level like : "V'th batalion goes there while III'th holds.....etc." ??
