'Silence' before the storm

Many in Europe, and Sweden, feared that the conclusion of hostilities between the Habsburgs and their enemies was but a short ceasefire, which would be broken the moment Austria's brilliant generals died of old age.

In a sense, they were right, but for now an uneasy silence engulfed the land. Nearly all nations seemed to be gathering strength to fight further wars, while the Chinese and other Asians were being wrecked by imperial aspirations of the French and Portuguese.

Sweden was luckily somewhat neutral, and could establish colonies in Nye Svealand, Nye Gotland and Nye Sjaelland, bringing great riches to the Swedish crown. The continuously profitable merchants combined with those incomes ushered in a great age of economic development.

Swedish brews took back marketshare lost to the Germans, Swedish netweavers and sailmakers produced sails for half the fleets of Europe, and the Swedish army was outfit with domestically made weaponry.

However, peace in Europe did not last. Russia and the Ottoman Empire merely made a swap in overlordship, and Austria caved in to Brandenburger demands, but war did come, eventually.

The Kingdom of France, which had experienced it's generals in the wars in the far east, now attacked the Austrians whom had before defeated them. The Austrians were slaughtered, offcourse, and quickly buckled to the French demands, undoubtedly helped along by Brandenburger pressure.

If the Archduke keeps giving in to Brandenburgian pressure like that, there is no doubt that he'll never have to fight them. But if it is his best course?

Still, the other Habsburger realms were not half as scared by the Kurfürst's armies, and they fought the French long after the Austrians had finished grovelling before the Brandenburgers.

Eventually, they were victorious, and as such clearly showed a simple fact: even if the Habsburgs were contained in Europe, they easily reigned supreme in all but Europe and North America.

By the grace of the Sultan, at least. If ever he actively opposed, or supported, house Habsburg, the world would be a much different place. And the Ottomans likely would be only stronger.

Still, Sweden had trouble making up it's mind. Opposing the Habsburgs was the logical course, as it's enemies were mostly protestant, and have been Swedish friends for some time.

Then again, supporting the Habsburgs could bring great wealth to Sweden. And thus it was no easy choice, and some say even our beloved king has not decided.

But the advisors of his majesty confirm that IF another Habsburg-Northerners war breaks out, the country will join some side and pray for the blessings of God.

Portugal
1647-1669

portugal_detail.gif

After the king of Portugal returned from his vacation, he noticed that his regent brought war to the kingdom. When the king saw this, he quickly wanted peace for the alliance, but England only wanted to have a separate peace with Portugal. Meanwhile France made an alliance peace with the Iberian-German alliance, and after some stabhit, England agreed to sign an alliance peace with us.

The war gave a good opportunity for the dishonorable scum alias rebels to rebel in South America, South Africa, Sou.. eh Indonesia, India , and Siberia where a lost (probably drunken) trading company set up a trading post.

The fighting with the rebels went good, and after some months of rebuilding the King decided to invade Guangzhou. After some years of bloody fighting, and the fall of the Manchurian capital, Portugal finally got the rich trade centre of Guangzhou. In the same year Portugal spotted France flags in Shanghai, and the nearby French provinces, and all over Japan. It seems Portugal got a rival in the race for Asia.

Of course I’ll drop a line about the colonization stuff. Line starts: I sent some colonist to my colonies and I continued trading in several CoTs; Line ends.

Because of the previous lost war against Austria, France wanted revenge. He attacked Austria soon as he got the chance. France outnumbered Austria, but Austria’s Iberian friends couldn’t help him in time, but just before France got 2 provinces in the Lowlands from Austria, the Iberian alliance went into a big offensive and seized Southern France, and Shanghai. However in the Portugal troops in China could take all of France’s possessions and defeated his fleet, after the peace with Austria, France could focus on Iberia. Several armies, one under Turenne, retook the French territories, and went on offensive. Turenne was on the way to Portugal itself, he didn’t stopped to capture Spanish lands, he wanted to take out Portugal, several Spanish and Portuguese armies wanted to stop the incoming French armada, but only after the successfully siege of Oporto the Iberians could gain a victory over Turenne. That was the turning point. From there Turenne had to run to Spain and then back to Portugal, and finally in Extramanuda after his death his army got beaten. The war only went for some days after this France gave up Béarn and Shanghai to Spain, and Portugal.

This was a great victory for the Iberian people, but who knows what will happen in the future..

(P.S. Sry Majo, I had to start with something. Thanks for subbing me last week)

France 1669-1682

After the harsh defeat to Spain and Portugal, the French king ordered his advisors to seek other means of fortune than conquest in Europe.

A large fleet of was therefore dispatched to the Japanese holdings, to secure the last stronghold and CoT from the Japanese, who had already turned to the one true faith. In the year 1671 all Japanese resistance ended, and the french flag now ways over all over French Japan. A peace was signed with China for Fujian and Zhejiang who turned out to be poor workers anyway.

In 1675 Versailles was built, a great accomplishment of the french people, who now shines in the glory of this magnificent castle. This brought so much join to the people, that a Fine Arts academy was build in Paris for no cost at all.

In 1682 the King wise decided to expel the protestants to Brandenburg, who much have been quite amased when he realised that most of the immegrants came from Japan. As a result of this, all provinses in Japan but Kanto and Shikoku are now good catholics. This also lead to the fortification of Japan, which is now a stronghold in Asia.

Being at peace for so many years, Monopolies where established both in Paris and Kyushu. Merchants have also begun being sent to other parts of the world, and trade income has been raised. To secure further tradingincome 3 additional refineries were build in the heart of France.

To make the people happy, minor wars was fought against England and Venice, whom in secret had bought the colony Wabana and the isle of Corsica. The people were happy, Venice and England has happy.

OTTOMAN AAR 1669-1682

We set out this session to expand our economics but found ourselves entangled in first an arming race and then a war.

Early on there was a message in the messag log by the king of England about the Sultan finally being DOWed this session.

Later on reports from our Iberian friends came that armies of the BB were moving South.

All of this made us mint 100% to build 200 new war ships and massively upgrade our fortresses.

Portugal also invited us to their alliance although Dud in SPA was a little reluctant.

When the war finally begun it turned out to be BB alone and not England or SWE (whose big navy had been spotted outside Cadiz many times the last few years).

Thus the disposition of our forces were not as effective as they could have been. This fact together with Brandenburgian supremacy in leaders and and morale meant that we were rather chanceless in battles unless we had
- twice as many soldiers
- or large enforcements coming in
- or great cavalry advantage on Plains
Add to this some foolish tactical misjudgements by the Ottoman head quarter.

Presently Brandenburg has the three outmost provinces of our North West corner under control. This is not much in WS but they also have 41 won battles vs 12 and this means they can now stab hit us which they do. Each stab hit costs us more than 2000d and this we cannot stomach for long. Either get the WS below the stab hit level or accept the peace terms (which the last time they asked for peace was to get all of these 3 provinces) appears to be our options. They are certainly gready those Germans. But an important factor is the well-being of our allies. We do not want to go to peace and leave them alone versus BB and AUS in case this would result in the latter being maltreated. Therefore, as part of a peace deal between Brandenburg and the Ottoman Empire a special clause regarding the Iberian powers and Venice will preferably be included.

-------

We moved to Aristo 8 in the only DP slider move we could make this session. Else we had a few bad events (an unhapiness among peasentry for example) that took some much of our attention away from the battlefields in Rumania.

All in all our income decreased during the session instead of vice-versa but of course, a lot of the money lost have been invested in useful things such as war ships and fortresses. Our main competitor in war ships is Sweden and they have around 20-25% less than we have. But we have 500 galleys as well while SWE has almost none. Thus SWE will surely stay out of war with us for the moment at least.

Our earlier main enemy ENG has been passive the last few session and reached infra 5 only the previous session. They appear to be about 40-50 years behind schedule.

The great crusade

Once again, the flames of war engulfed Europe. But this time, Austria drowned.

Forced to become a Brandenburgian vassal, they appeared the weakest state in Europe. When thus the alliance of Brandenburg and Austria attacked the Sublime Porte, Sweden seriously considered offering aid against the vast and rich realm of the Turk.

Two facts, however, prevented this. The first was the recent alliance between the Iberians, Venice, and the Ottoman Sultan. These Papists never cease to amaze, but they do sail around in big fleets. Poor Sweden, all alone against the combined Turkish-Iberian fleet would've stood no chance.

The second fact were the successes of the Germans agains the Turk. Many in Sweden didn't really LIKE the Brandenburgers getting stronger, and it seemed obvious that the Sultan really wasn't as dangerous as previously thought.

Given time, the Sultan might even lose parts of the power he did have to the Germans, and if Sweden had joined this situation would only get worse, while Sweden would hardly gain from it.

Strong Germans are allright, but when they can defeat the nation believed strongest by Stockholm, there is some problem. We wouldn't want these Germans to get powerfull enough to build a massive fleet or such, as Sweden doesn't really want to be a vassal of the Germans any more than we liked the Danes.

Thus, Sweden simply expanded the fleet at a greatly increased rate, while sending out feelers to Iberia regarding an honourable war between Sweden and Portugal, arguably the strongest christian ocean-going navies.

And besides, those Portuguese have some pretty rich holdings, and a pathetic army. If Sweden could destroy their fleet, well, those riches could be ours someday. Which would be a good thing.

There is offcourse the risk that the Portuguese prove tougher than expected, and that our troops never set foot in Iberia. That would be annoying, right? Especially as we know the Portuguese demands in case we lose, and what they ask would seriously upset many in Sweden.

Some others would love it, but those people aren't in charge of the nation, so they don't count. We didn't crush these nobles for nothing.

Anyway, the great German crusade is still ongoing, with some success as it appears the Venetian Doge might be struck by an assasin anytime soon, which would likely lead to another era of chaos in that nation.

Unruly Italians. One wonders why the Spanish even bother ruling them, but as said, the papists never cease to amaze.

Soon, somesort of agreement with Portugal might be reached, and then we'll teach the papists whose side God is on. Probably theirs, as they are richer and they have better naval technology. But if so, at least this boring era of peace ends.

The nobles would like that, and thus we would, as it gives them something else to play around with. Let's wish them luck dieing in Iberia, right?

The Östrian AAR of 1669-1682

At the beginning of this period, Brandenburg immediately invaded Austria. We've argued for a long time Austria is far from as strong as people think; the following "war" just proved it, or shall we say slaughter? Anyway, Brandenburg was offered the entire of Germany but refused and settled for vassalization of Austria + Podlasia to "make the border look nicer". It was fairly dramatic even though I have described it in few words. One always feels compelled to quit a game after having taken such a beating, but it must also be remembered better times usually are ahead. In this case it certainly was true because the evil BB ruler had a ruthless plan like usual.

He wanted Austria to join operation Osmani Freedom. It was designed for his personal pleasure, yet the contents were highly advantageous for Austria. All but one fact were satisfying; the Austrians had had a peaceful relationship with the Turks for several centuries, and the Archduke was not all to keen at breaking this pact. Nevertheless, facing another BB invasion, it was agreed upon that Austrian troops would aid BB whatever help they could in the coming war.

The war itself was delayed a long time from the start. It took quite some time to maximize the countless Brandenburger army. Additionally, BB's ruler sent an angry letter to Ferdinand of Austria that he must have enhanced the fortresses on the Ottoman border beforre war could commence. Humble the Archduke replied: "But we have no money, sir!" As a result of this we obtained heavy funding by Brandenburg and eventually managed to carry out the required upgrades. Not only upgrades were carried out actually; for large stockpiles of food allowing greater numbers of fed troops were also acquired.

When the war finally broke out it proved the Turks hadn't been idle. Not only had they improved their odds militarily, but also diplomatically. It was an irony of faith when the previously outspoken enemy of the Turks, the Spaniards and Portugese, joined on the wrong side of the crusade. Even the Venetians joined them! Oh dear!

It wasn't as bad as it looked though. Like it should be known to any historian, Portugal, Spain and Venice were seafaring nations. They had specialized in fleets. This meant, their armies were not as well equipped. (I admit the historical justification for that is debatable for in EU2 in works that way.) An example of this was a battle that occurred in Piedemonte, an Italian province under Austrian siege, where 120 000 Spaniards from sea attacked 40 000 Austrians and lost. While the terrain was preferable for defense such victories wouldn't be possible against another land power.

Anyhow, like could be inferred from the previous paragraph, Austrian victories versus the navals were numerous. However, admittedly we did not fight the Ottomans at all. BB has been preoccupied with that and has had some success (measured in warscore), but on the other hand it hasn't gained much progress against the Turkish forts, because whenever the BB army advances it gets under counte rattacked by a new Turkish one. On the Austrian front however, things go well in Italy and the Balkan coast.

AAR OE 1682-1700

After the "war incident" of last week everything went back to normal. I.e. peaceful growth and territorial expansion by diplomatic means. Thus Nubia was diploannexed and the Mughals were vassalised.

One trade tech and one infra level was also achieved before we decided to invest in LT up to ahead of time penalty, an aim which is close to be fulfilled.

Meanwhile we have noticed that England now has increased their naval tech to be at par with us. This must of course be remedied in the next session. Luckily for us another threatening potential enemy, Sweden, became AIed and wasted its treasure on fortresses. Since Karl XII just became king we are a little worried about Swedish policies. However, if the king sails into the Mediterranean with malicious aims we will sink his fleet

When Venice was split we aimed for our cores. Unfortunately Venice offered Istria as well in the peace but we will give that to Austria according to a deal we made with them. However, so far AUS has not managed to get up to -2 stab and therefore we are still waiting for their DOW :D But after the acquisition of most of Italy this Austria looks decidedly strong and we are very happy that one of our friends is so prosperous.

In our next war with Venice we will take Cyprus and Korfu, our two last cores and after that we have no further claims on their land. It will be interesting to see who grabs Venice proper. Will it be Austria? Or one of the war-horses France and Spain? Or perhaps Portugal sneaks in and grabs the fat price ;)

During the session the bonds between SPA and our nation grow strong and we wish a happy future for them.

AAR OE 1700-1725

Most developed according to plan this session.

Zanj and Uzbek were annexed.
One infra level gained.
Last two cores taken from Venice.
Conversions progressing well.
Advanced to inno 6 and offensive to 2.

Else invested in military techs. ENG gained some NT advantage on me early on but we closed the gap a few years before lightning struck and England DOWed. We had no indications this was going to happen. And I frankly wonder what her intent was? At that time her LT was substantially lower than OE:s and her MP minuscule in comparison. There are two theories,

1. She believed she could crush my fleet and thus gain naval supremacy and then being able to select landing spots. For a nation with so low MP this is a doubtful strategy.

2. She was the lapdog of a continental nation who wanted my fleet out of the way and thus ENG aimed merely on destroying my fleet

History will tell which one it was.

Anyhow what happened was that my fleet of IIRC some 400 war ships and 450 galleys was attacked in the Sea zone North of Fez by a ENG fleet, led by Admiral Byng, of a similar size (although having a decidedly higher proportion of galleys). My fleet was still on 50% maintenance but wonders of wonders. The high skilled OE fleet still destroyed the English. We lost 48 warships and 64 galleys in total. The English lost approximately 200 warships and 640 galleys and retreated with three ships. Yes you are reading the correct number: three ships. The Ottoman fleet let them escape and a few days later ENG offered WP which was accepted.

This must have been one of the shortest real wars in the history of EU MP. N.b. this was not a cheap war. ENG as we all have some expenditure they cannot avoid such as military maintenance, sending colonists etc. They have a yearly income of 5800d. We can estimate that the current cost of rebuilding this fleet (not that ENG will rebuild galleys but anyhow) to be around 13000d. Thus it will take them some 3-4 years of full minting to regain it.

The OE is greatly alarmed that the knowledgeable Prussians chose to pay ahead of time penalty for the latest LT levels and thus reached LT 41 already in 1725, eight years early. Why did they waste this money we ask ourselves?

Vive La France - Vive Le Roi

France 1700 - 1725, a period of war for the french.

After first having lost 3 provinses to Spain in the first war against Austria and Spain, the french king ordered more troops to be recruited for the upcomming war to regain what was lost.

A few years later the campaign against Spain was launched, and Spain quickly decided that it was the wise choice to give back the 3 provinses to France. Once again the a french king send a charge the affair to Madrid, so the friendly relations could once again flourish.

A new campaign was now plotted, well mostly it was the Preussian king who surgested it, that Spain should take Spanish Italy (the south of Italy). The king of France was still mad at the Austrian Emporer for taking sides with Spain in the first war, decided to join the Spanish kings claims, in hope of gaining our core Luxembourg from Austria. This war is still ongoing - thou the French king is ready to settle it for now.

Internal affairs:

3 manus where lost in this period, and since France spent many years in war, most of it's money went into fortifting it's defenses rather than rebuilding the lost manus'.

Trade 6 was reach and 2 new CoT's were opend in French territory, so that we now own a total of 5. We were below most others in LT before, but are now one of the frontrunners with LT39, navel only gained 3 but then again, we have almost 0 navy. Merchantalism was reduced to 0 in order to gain more setlers for the colonies in Australia, which are not finished, and the colonies in South America.

Austria 1700 - 1725

This was a session with very many fights to say the least. :D First it was Spain & Austria versus France (because we had automatically been thrown into an alliance due to an event anyhow). Russia which was subbed by Hose evened things out a bit by supporting France, though Sweden joined Spain and Austria for some reason so it became 3 vs 2.

The war went like this: First Spain and Austria had big initial successes against the French. However, as Russian troops amassed in the east Austria was forced to withdraw all reinforcements in that direction which meant all offensive power was reduced in the west. Also, Austria had forgot to stab hit France though warscore was at +99%. This allowed France to regain control of the situation and start to beat back the Habsburg armies and resiege its territory. The Russians didn't make any progress as such but their contribution was vital nontheless because it slowly eradicated Austrian troops (who at one point had to fight a battle such as 60 000 Austrians versus 250 000 Russians dropping in over a few weeks). No wonder a retreat was called for.

With the arrival of the permanent Russian ruler Mulliman fortunes changed however, because he like expected immediately peaced the Habsburgs and left France alone. France, which had received its first stab hit offer accepted it even though it wasn't intended to be accepted. It gained Spain three provinces in a line in eastern France; Spain had wanted Genoa and Piedmonte and wasn't all that happy. The new provinces were much more difficult to defend relatively. This was the first war.

The second war of notice Austria wasn't involved it, but it agreed to let France go in a 1 vs 1 on Spain to regain the lost provinces. It did after a year or so; everything was fine.

The third war was decidedly much more serious though, although it's not yet concluded. At the suggestion of the Dark Lord in the north Spain allied with France. I guess both were pretty tired with Austria changing allegiance in various wars but it had been to let things stay balanced. Now however, when France declared war and Spain joined, things were NOT balanced. France alone is about 1.5 stronger than Austria economically. If we count in the economy of Spain... Oh dear. The only clear advantage was that of Austrian leadership.

Initial difficulties included the deployment of troops. Most armies were in east or central Austria where they would not have much use protecting the western border or our holdings in Italy. Thus, it took nearly a year to march them to the right spots across mountains for a counteroffensive. During this time Spain landed invasion forces in Italy and captured big chunks of the country, while France captured all territory in front of the big river that runs a bit behind the Austrian-French border.

Once Austrian troops had arrived however, slaughter on enemy forces ensued. The enemies could constantly apply forces in greater quantities to any given battle, but Austrian troop quality and leadership always prevailed. Prinz Eugene ran rampaging on the border to France and at times even ventured into French territory, though a big enough army would usually show up to send him back. French Italy was captured (Genoa and Piedmonte), though the Spaniards after they got thrown out from Austrian Italy decided to prevent Austrian control of these areas for long. Either way the danger was over, and at the session's end it can be concluded we even had more manpower left than our enemies and lower war exhaustion. Quite an impressive result, even with some external funding and own minting.

Of course, we need to thank three generals for the victory. Prinz Eugene with his x-6-6 skills totally crush an enemy who dares to oppose him at equal conditions. Secondly, we had two random x-6-4 generals whose fire value helped reducing enemy troop numbers sufficiently for success. Aladar and Almighty (rulers of France and Spain) will dream nightmares of these guys.

Austria agrees to a white peace in the current war versus France and Spain.

A shadow is growing in the east (but rather north :D)... The power of the elfs is fading.

Ottoman Empire 1725-1750

Ottoman Empire 1725-1750

As new sultan taken over the rule, Ottoman Empire was on the way to uncertainity. Young and barely competent monarch caused many wrinkles to his ministers. He was well known for his careless life full of entertainment, women and unearthty beauty. Despite attempts of his father to teach him the art war, of empire management and commerce, he still lacked daily experience. And so began year 1725.

First experiences

World of year 1725 was not really suave. War between Austria and French-Spanish alliance continued despite previous agreement, mediated by old Sultan. World's trade centers were full of greedy merchants from Christian Europe, who didn't really like presence of Ottoman traders. It was not uncommon that western merchants tried to repell Ottoman ones even from their own centers, like Isfahan or Alexandria.

Internal management of that huge empire was also tough nut to crack for new ruler. Time was running too fast and inexperienced Sultan hardly managed to handle all at once. Despite this fact, colonies of Damman and Zaire were developed to cities. Last Christian province in the empire was converted to True Faith and few of other religions were either converted or attempted to be converted.

As advised by his father, Sultan supported development of infrastructure in first years. Lots of ducats were minted. Once military strategists came with the idea of special conscription centers, seen before in Prussia or Portugal, many provinces were improved by this facilities. New naval technologies made sea traveling much lass dangerous and Ottoman Empire was once more leader in this area.

War for China

Sooner than empire could be ready, England declared war on us. Our mediterranean fleet was alarmed as increased demand for naval supplies in England indicated some movememt, but it was too chaotic when it broke out. Half of out fleet was sunk immediately east of Gibraltar, where combined Anglo-Portuguese fleet collected their first victory. After this defeat, disorganized remnants of mediterranean fleet was called back to ports to save them from total annihilation. Enemies used also other than conventional tactics in this war. They used black magic too. As people from western Anatolia witnessed, complete brand new fleet counting around 200 warships disappeared in a second, right in front of their eyes, with enemy thousand miles away. This also meant end of battle for Mediterranean for a while.

England together with Portugal started their attacks everywhere and lot of minor fleets in Indian Ocean were defeated too. With no naval possibility to reinforce Songhai, it was doomed for painful siege and subsequent capture. Many battles were fought in Bombay, where Portuguese and English won and lost many battles. War ended by last defeat of Ottoman army in Bombay. It was the last drop that forced Sultan to accept peace terms offered by aggressors. Center of trade and rights over province of Songhai were transferred to England.

Post-war development

After the war, which tought Sultan a lot about this kind of conflict, life went to normal. Trade was slowly being re-established, but it never reached the pre-war effectiveness. War between Austria one one side and Spain and France on the other still lasted, but this time with new commander in chief, who proved his qualities soon after. It is quessed that Austrian success was greatly helped by money from Ottoman empire, but this will never be proved.

Ottoman Empire 1750-1762

Ottoman Empire 1750-1762

Second half of 18th century started by restoration of positions Empire lost during last two decades. Sultan, now much closer to competent leader than in the beginning of his reign, taken seriously advices of his ministers and followed them to the last word.

Trade became biggest source of income again

After shameful loss of share in most of world's trade centers, trade was given the adequate priority. More importantly, it was also properly done (surely better than during previous 25 years). Ottoman merchants patiently and inconspicuously established their positions in most parts of the world. It hasn't reached the numbers from 1725, but it is on the good way to reach it in next 12 or 13 years.

Important event which increased revenues and success rate of our merchants overall was major improvement of trading techniques. Ottoman Empire could once again be in level with Prussia or Portugal.

Mughal Empire struggling with rebels

Mughal Empire faced continuous problems with rebellious regions. Their incompetent leadership was unable to hold empire together and rebellious provinces started to declare independence or seek their future under the protection of stronger states. This way, we accepted to include five new provinces in the Empire.

Wars in Europe

Despite Ottoman Empire was not part of any war during these twelve years, struggles between Austria, France and Spain continued. Austria couldn't stand their position while they lost decisive battles to Spain. They were doomed to lost some Italian possesions. Swedish king turn mad and declared war on England. English puppet Portugal joined this defensive war and soon after Swedish fleet was on the knees. Greedy England aims for Swedish centers of trade. This shall stop and Naval alliance might face other force than that of mad kings.

United States of America

Portugal had to face another inonvenience than Swedish war. Her american colonies declared independence and started to exist on their own. Their presence in the Miams COT was more than disturbing.

Hah! England's puppet: Portugal  I don't know how can I be the puppet of England when I'm way richer then it, was his enemy for 200 years, and while he can't defeat that 45000d navy that you and Daniel had without me ?

And by the way there is a misunderstanding, I had a trading post in Carolina
which has been invaded by Spainsh rebels, then Delaware revolted from England and because Carolina was under rebel controll for a long time, and the USA has a core on it, the USA has been created with Carolina.

AAR OE 1762 - 1784

This was to be a very exciting session for the OE. The move to be done had been planned for 250 years and now the time had come.

It was thought to happen during my abscence but defections from the Mughal Empire to the Ottos delayed the correct date.

More of this later.

-----

At first we improved a little here and a little there. Some nice spots for CCs were vacant and some fortresses needed to be increased. As you may know fortresses are quite cheap for the Ottos - as are other things. Only one thing is expensive and that is ships. But we still built ships although they cost over 70d per ship. All in all we built close to 700 ships during the session for a total cost of around 50,000d. To be able to afford that you need a good economy. But the initial trading successes got a severe setback when the Anglo-Iberian alliance decided to embargo us for the only reason that we were too rich. A very hostile action for which Allah surely will punish these heathens.

However, we did not retaliate the embargoes but proceeded on our peaceful prosperous journey.

The kingdom of Zimbabwe had declared independence from SPA and we asked the king of SPA for permission to annex them and that was granted by him. We are grateful for this and the king of SPA can expect goodwill in the future. But later on an incident in Fez took place. The king of SPA suddenly asked why we had a big army in Fez and I said as it was, that the Ottos had had a big army standing there for 200 years. The only answer we got was “move it, I do not like it at my border”. We of course did as he asked for. But by this hostile behaviour the king of SPA lost all the goodwill he had just gained. Why on earth did he demand that from us? We only moved it one province away, what difference can that make?

Anyhow the Zimbabwians were annexed but soon afterwards came to life again when the last Spanish colony in that are declared independence.

---------------

Then in the 1770s the time had come, our BB was down to 0 but.... those Mughal fools were in war with the Chagatai. Arrrg! Thus we had to wait for a few years (at BB=0, what a waste!) before the glorious day when all their 50 odd provinces (around 85% Sunni) could be incorporated into our realm without us breaking the BB threshold. At the end of the session our BB was 47 out of 54 and dropping with around 0.4-0.5 each year. And soon we will arrive at the date when the threshold starts increasing with 1 every year. Stab costs that were at around 2000d before the annexation increased to 7500d afterwards. Luckily we got in a serfdom +1 slider move before the annexation. Thus both our serfdom and aristo slider are at the worst possible position from a purely short sight economical view.

After that we promoted officials and begun some conversions in India. Built some more ships and fortresses and aided those nations that have proved to be our friends.

------

Thus everything proceeds according to plan.

AAR OE 1784-1803

Before the start of the session a deal had been made with FRA and SWE. We would fund FRA heavily and they in return would drag out on the war for some time (thereby gaining time for OE and SWE to improve their fleet size even more). Then FRA would lose the war and give up some provinces. But then, some years later, SWE and OE would DOW ENG (+SPA+POR) and if we won the battle for naval supremacy FRA would then join the war and get back what they lost.

Thus huge amounts of money was sent to FRA while we built ships that just became more and more expensive. 80d per ship. 100 ships cost about 1 years income (if we deduct from income what we have to pay in military maintenance).

When we were hit by several bad events we had to redirect money into stab investment and therefore the day of the DOW was postponed. It was finally decided to be Aug 1 1795. Instead of 1788/1799 that we first intended. This later date would mean we would have to face Horatio N but on the other hand our combined forces would be far greater.

Fleet sizes at start of session, withing parenthesis supportable amount of ships
OE - 1170 (1780)
ENG - 1050 (1050)
POR - 600 (600)
SWE - 400 (800)
Spain had too low NT to be relevant.

In 1795 OE had built up to support limit as had Sweden. Our huge fleet begun to move in June and we spotted a single Portuguese ship outside Crete, obviously on look out, the question was: was it looking? Well, it appeared to be moving which meant we were spotted but the decision had been made. In the worst case the Portuguese fleet would join with the English and both of them would have concentrated their fleets into one, then it would be 2000 ships vs 1600. With Nelson as their commander and no one in particular for the good allies.

When we arrived at the mouth of the Thames we could, to our great joy, see that there we had only the ENG fleet of some 950 sails, commanded by Sir Sidney Smith (Nelson was probably down in the pack). The Swedes arrrived and we DOWed... For the first time in the whole game we DOWed a human player. The war was over in a week. The whole ENG fleet was destroyed while we lost some 550 ships and the Swedes (on NT 60) some 250. When our 250k army on board then proceeded to assualt London in 3 days the English king said he accepted any claims. The victorious side was very kind, they only asked for Copenhagen to Sweden and Kent to the OE. And yes, the proud Englishmen also had to become the vassal of the Ottoman Empire. :D

And thus the OE had finally got revenge on their arch enemy, who twiced had DOWed us during the years, once they failed and once they took Shanghai.

Unfortunately the French never joined the war. They could have taken anything they wanted from ENG - although Kansai now belonged to Portugal, but they could have taken Shanghai instead.

Portugal has almost always been a very good friend of the OE and thus stirct orders had been sent to our allies to spare Portuguese lives.

-----

And yes, I forgot to mention that early on we vassalised China, more as a matter of prestige than anything else.

------

We could then rest for a while until AUS and PRU attacked us in 1800. This was an honorable war as AUS as early in the 16th century had indicated that their deal with the OE would not be for the whole game. Also AUS sent diplomats clearly telling that 1800 was the year. Also PRU asked if we were ready. Rarely has such chivalry been on display!

Thus the attack came and FRA joined forces with SWE and OE. The evil attackers were surprised by FRA joining us but they were saved.... by a crash of me the host. Thus we had to restart from the autosave.... Too bad.

Now the SWE-OE alliance became sloppy, or rather I were. I had forgotten that FRA was not in the alliance. After the rehost the evil attackers tried another approach, instead of attacking me and SWE they attacked FRA. Thus SWE and OE had to DOW AUS+PRU in a separate war.

In this war, still going on, the OE have taken control of Austrian Italy south of the Po while SWE have taken Danzig rom Prussia. However we, at least the OE, failed to assist FRA and they were thus forced to peace with PRU+AUS losing vital parts in the East. This was bad play by me for which I am very sorry. But we can at least be happy that according to Austrian reports our activity in Italy killed Erzherzog Karl. Must have been that 60k force sieging Apulia which was taken by surprise by a 250k Ottoman army sailing into harbour. The Austrians were killed in 5 seconds.

On the other hand this means FRA is now in war with SPA (and perhaps POR). With generous funding from OE and with great leaders still alive they will surely be able to crush the Iberians and thus retake from them what they lost vs the Axis. Perhaps Andalusia and Toledo could become French?

Meanwhile I have great problems remembering to build troops all the time. It seems my MP pool is always on max. I have around 1.2 million men in the pool and it stays so.

It is assumed huge Prussian armies are now on march towards Balkan, since they are not anymore needed in FRA. Thus preparations are and will be made.

Anything but victory is out of the question. But we will not ask for much for ourselves in this war. It is a war of prestige, at least for us. We hope our friends in the North will prosper. Their fleet protects them from their foes and thus they cannot be crushed by PRU+AUS alone.

--------

Some other stats: we have now moved to land 9. Our BB is 39 out of 71. Our stab cost is at 6500d.

--------

Everything proceeds according to plan.

heh, Daniel, if Russia would stay at our side, it would be matter of the prestige :) Otherwise it is matter to defend. We were lucky to kick France out of the war to concentrate on OE, or we could defend only.
Well, Austria + Prussia MP is less than single OE MP.

But Prussia won`t let France to kill our iberians friends
